BAE22 is a useful alternative to the increasingly common stretch canvas men's ballet shoe. Instead of creating an immediate second-skin sensation, its leather upper offers a more substantial traditional feel that gradually becomes softer and more personal through wear.

The stretch insert underneath the arch prevents that leather construction from feeling unnecessarily rigid through the midfoot. Combined with separate suede sole pads, it allows considerably more freedom through articulation while retaining the durability and tactile feel dancers often choose leather for.

And just like BAE11, the elastics aren't factory positioned. They arrive partially attached so the dancer can decide exactly where and how firmly the crossed straps sit across the instep.

Design & Performance

The leather upper gives BAE22 its defining character. More substantial than lightweight stretch canvas, it provides a reassuring feel around the foot while gradually softening and adapting through regular studio wear.

Underneath, separate suede forefoot and heel pads create the split sole. This leaves the centre of the foot free from a continuous sole, allowing easier articulation and a more direct relationship with the floor.

A flexible stretch insert through the arch works with that split construction, helping the shoe move more naturally through the midfoot rather than resisting the shape of a pointed foot.

The crossed elastics are supplied partially attached for custom placement.
