Fit: A close gymnastics fit with a flexible stretch body and fitted mesh sleeves. Use The Zone size guide and your child’s measurements when choosing a size; age labels are a starting point.

Check torso length: Measure girth from the centre of one shoulder, down the front of the body, through the crotch and back up to the same shoulder in one continuous loop. Compare this with the size guide alongside chest, waist and height.

Check the sleeves: Your child should be able to lift both arms overhead and bend their elbows comfortably. The sleeves should sit neatly at the wrists, with no uncomfortable pulling across the shoulders or under the arms. If measurements fall between sizes, ask our team for fit advice.

For gymnastics leotards, girth is the key measurement when the numbers point to different sizes. If height or chest suggests one size but girth sits closer to the next, choosing the larger size will usually give a more comfortable torso fit.

How to Measure for The Zone Gymnastics Leotards

Measure over underwear or close-fitting clothing using a flexible tape measure. Stand naturally and keep the tape comfortably against the body without pulling it tight.

Girth

Key Measurement

Using a flexible tape measure, start at the centre of one shoulder. Bring the tape down the front of the torso, through the crotch and back up to the same shoulder, creating one complete loop.

Keep the tape comfortably close to the body without pulling it tight. Girth is especially useful when choosing between two leotard sizes.

Chest

Measure around the fullest part of the chest, keeping the tape straight and level around the body. The tape should sit comfortably without compressing the chest.

Waist

Measure around the natural waist, usually the narrowest part of the torso. Keep the tape level and comfortably close to the body.

Hips

Measure around the fullest part of the hips and seat while standing naturally. Keep the tape level all the way around.

Hips are not included in this particular The Zone size table, but they can still be useful when checking overall body proportions and leotard coverage.

Height

Stand straight without shoes, with feet flat on the floor, and measure from the floor to the top of the head.

The Zone Fit Guidance

The Zone uses numbered gymnastics sizes rather than standard clothing sizes. Current girls' styles commonly progress from size 24 for younger children through sizes 26, 28, 30 and 32, with size 34 moving into Women's Small on many models. Use age only as a guide and prioritise actual body measurements, particularly girth, when choosing a leotard.

Choosing a Leotard for a Display or Competition?

Before choosing an outfit for an event, ask your child’s coach whether the club has a set team leotard or allows gymnasts to choose their own design. This helps you find something that suits the occasion as well as your gymnast’s taste.

Try the complete outfit on before the big day. Ask your child to reach overhead, bend their elbows and move gently through a few familiar stretches. The body and sleeves should sit comfortably without pulling. If they will wear an underlayer or shorts, include those in the fit check too.
