So Danca makes a wide range of dancewear and footwear, so fit can vary between styles. For garments, use the measurement chart that matches the wearer and product category. For tights, compare both height and weight. Best For: Ballet Character • Graded Ballet • Teaching • Beginner Ballroom & Latin Practice • Social Dance
Description
Description
The So Danca RO14 Cuban Heel Character Shoes are a traditional ballet character shoe with a surprisingly versatile second life as an affordable practice shoe. Lightweight canvas, a full suede sole and stable 1.5" Cuban heel create an easy, grounded feel for character work, teaching and lower-heel dance practice.
Originally designed for graded ballet character work from Grade 3 upwards, RO14 is also an interesting option for adult dancers wanting a simple, comfortable introduction to practising Ballroom, Latin or social dance in a heel.

So Danca RO14 Cuban Heel Ballet Character - Design & Performance
The defining feature of the RO14 is its 1.5" / approx. 3.8 cm Cuban heel. Broad and relatively low, it creates a reassuringly stable platform beneath the foot while introducing the raised heel position associated with traditional character work.
Underfoot, a full soft suede sole provides the controlled glide dancers expect on a studio floor. It allows turns, directional changes and travelling movement without the grip of an everyday outdoor shoe, while the moderate shank retains enough structure beneath the arch for character technique.
The strong canvas upper keeps RO14 considerably lighter and softer than many leather practice shoes. A pre-sewn elastic strap secures the shoe across the instep, while cushioning through the upper and sole makes it comfortable for classes and longer practice sessions.
It is deliberately a simple shoe rather than a highly engineered Ballroom model, and that simplicity is part of its appeal. For dancers who want a stable Cuban heel and traditional suede floor response without moving immediately into a specialist practice shoe, RO14 offers excellent accessibility.

The Dance World Shoe DNA compares the defining characteristics of our character and practice shoes. A higher score does not necessarily mean a better shoe - it shows the balance of comfort, stability, flexibility, cushioning and floor feel so dancers can find the shoe that best suits their training.
Dance World Notes
Traditional Ballet Foundation
Primarily designed for graded ballet character work.
Dance World Tip: Although RO14 is first and foremost a ballet character shoe, we often think it is overlooked by adults beginning Ballroom or Latin. The low Cuban heel and suede sole give you the essential ingredients of a traditional practice shoe at a very accessible price point.
For regular or more advanced Ballroom and Latin training, we would still move towards a specialist practice shoe with greater flexibility and dance-specific construction. But for a beginner wanting to discover whether dancing in a heel feels right, RO14 is a clever place to start.
