Size & Fit Advice

All shoes are displayed in UK sizes. The size printed on the shoe or box may differ due to the manufacturer's international sizing system.

RO12 is generously sized. We recommend starting approximately ½–1 UK size down from your child's usual shoe size.

The shoe should fit comfortably and securely, with the heel held in place and minimal movement inside the shoe.

Avoid excessive growing room in character shoes, as a secure fit helps young dancers feel more stable when working in a heel.

Sizing is a guide only. Fit can vary depending on foot shape, width and personal preference.

Description

The So Danca RO12 Children's Character Shoes are a classic choice for young dancers beginning ballet character work. Designed with a stable low heel, full suede sole and comfortable canvas upper, they give children a secure introduction to dancing in a heeled shoe.

Ideal for dance school uniforms, graded ballet classes and examinations, the RO12 keeps things reassuringly simple: a low manageable heel, supportive full sole and pre-sewn elastic strap that makes the shoes easy for younger dancers to put on and wear.

Designed for Young Character Dancers

Character shoes introduce young ballet students to a different style of movement and footwear. The RO12's 1" / approx. 2.5 cm low heel provides gentle elevation while keeping the dancer close to the floor, helping children feel balanced and secure as they learn.

Underneath, the full soft suede sole provides the traditional floor contact needed for character work while the moderate shank gives useful support beneath the foot. Cushioning through the shoe helps keep it comfortable during classes, rehearsals and examination days.

The strong black canvas upper is lightweight and practical for regular school use, while the wide pre-sewn elastic strap holds the shoe securely across the instep without buckles or complicated fastenings.

Why a Low Heel for Younger Dancers?

A low character heel is commonly used by younger ballet students because it introduces dancing in a heel while still providing a stable, manageable base.

NOTE: The Low Heel option is suitable for ballet exams from Grade 1and 2.

As dancers progress through their training, their school or teacher may eventually ask them to move into a higher Cuban-heel character shoe. Always follow your dance school's uniform requirements, as the required heel height can vary between schools and grades.

How should children's character shoes fit?

Character shoes should feel comfortably secure around the foot, with the heel held in place and no excessive slipping as your child walks or dances.

The So Danca RO12 fits generously.

We recommend starting approximately ½–1 UK size smaller than your child's usual shoe size.

Avoid buying character shoes significantly larger for growing room. Too much movement inside a heeled dance shoe can make it harder for a young dancer to feel balanced and secure.

Dance World Size Guide is intended as a helpful starting point. Every child's feet are unique, so fit may vary depending on foot shape, width and personal preference.

Not sure whether your dancer needs a low or Cuban heel? Check your dance school's uniform requirements before ordering. If you're unsure about the RO12 sizing, our Dance World team is always happy to help you choose the most suitable size.
