Take dancewear measurements over underwear or close-fitting clothing using a flexible tape measure. For shoes, measure both feet while standing and use the longer foot as your starting point.

Bust / Chest Measure around the fullest part of the chest, keeping the tape straight and level around the body.

Waist Measure around the natural waist, usually the narrowest part of the torso.

Hips Measure around the fullest part of the hips and seat, keeping the tape level.

Girth Start at one shoulder, measure down the front of the torso, through the crotch and back to the same shoulder in one continuous loop.

Foot Length Measure from heel to longest toe while standing. Measure both feet and use the longer measurement.

The wider C fitting gives broader forefeet and metatarsals additional space, while soft stretch canvas continues to follow the foot closely for a neat ballet silhouette.

Vegan micro-suede alternative sole pads replace traditional suede underneath the shoe, while the flexible split sole allows developing feet to articulate naturally. Pre-sewn crossed elastics and a drawstring-free topline make the SD16VG particularly uncomplicated for regular ballet classes.

The SD16VG C combines the soft, flexible feel of modern stretch canvas with additional room through the forefoot. Rather than making the whole shoe unnecessarily long, the C fitting helps accommodate children whose toes and metatarsals need more space across the width of the shoe.

Wide Foot - or Just Too Small?

When a ballet shoe feels tight, it's tempting to immediately choose a bigger size. But first, look at where the shoe is tight.

Too small?
If the toes reach the very end of the shoe, curl underneath or cannot lie naturally because there isn't enough length, your child probably needs a longer size.

Too narrow?
If the length looks right but the toes are being pushed together, the sides of the foot press strongly against the canvas or the widest part of the forefoot feels squeezed, your child may need more width rather than more length.

Too wide?
If the shoe is correct in length but there is obvious loose fabric around the forefoot, the foot moves inside the shoe or the heel doesn't feel secure, the C width may be too generous.

Dance World Tip: Don't use extra length to solve a width problem. If the SD16VG B is comfortable in length but feels tight across the foot, moving to C gives your child additional width without automatically making the ballet shoe longer.

Always begin with your child's measured foot length and then check that both the length and width suit their individual foot shape.

The toes should be able to lie naturally and the forefoot should feel comfortably accommodated. At the same time, the stretch canvas should remain relatively smooth rather than creating excessive folds or loose fabric.

Width Tip: C is the wide fitting. If your child's foot looks lost inside the shoe despite the length being correct, consider the SD16VG B medium width instead.
