Take dancewear measurements over underwear or close-fitting clothing using a flexible tape measure. For shoes, measure both feet while standing and use the longer foot as your starting point.

Bust / Chest Measure around the fullest part of the chest, keeping the tape straight and level around the body.

Waist Measure around the natural waist, usually the narrowest part of the torso.

Hips Measure around the fullest part of the hips and seat, keeping the tape level.

Girth Start at one shoulder, measure down the front of the torso, through the crotch and back to the same shoulder in one continuous loop.

Foot Length Measure from heel to longest toe while standing. Measure both feet and use the longer measurement.

The So Danca SD16 Width C Children's Ballet Shoes bring the soft, flexible feel of the much-loved SD16 to young dancers who need a little more room across the foot. The wider C fitting gives broader forefeet and metatarsals space to sit more naturally, while the stretch canvas still follows the foot closely for a neat ballet silhouette.

A flexible split sole encourages natural articulation as technique develops, while pre-sewn crossed elastics and a drawstring-free topline keep the shoe secure and wonderfully uncomplicated for regular ballet classes. For children who find the standard SD16 B comfortable in length but restrictive across the width, the C fitting can make a significant difference.

The SD16 C is designed to give wider feet the room they need without losing the clean, close appearance of a stretch canvas ballet shoe. Rather than simply making the shoe longer, the wider fitting provides additional space through the forefoot, helping the toes sit naturally while the stretch canvas continues to hug the arch and heel.

It's also an easy progression shoe for regular classes. Does My Child Actually Need a Wide Ballet Shoe?

A wide ballet shoe isn't simply a roomier or more comfortable version of a standard shoe. It's designed for a foot that genuinely needs more space across the forefoot and metatarsals.

Look at the fit while your child is standing naturally. If the shoe length looks correct but the toes appear squeezed together, the sides of the foot push strongly against the canvas or the fabric looks excessively stretched across the widest part of the foot, a wider fitting may be more appropriate.

With the SD16 family, B is our medium-width starting point and C is the wider option. Moving from B to C allows us to add width without automatically adding unnecessary length.

Dance World Tip: A wide ballet shoe should still look neat. If the C width creates loose fabric, obvious bagging or an insecure heel, your child may actually be better suited to the medium B width.

Ballet shoes fit differently from everyday school shoes, and the SD16 has a slightly smaller, close-fitting feel. Always begin with your child's measured foot length rather than their everyday shoe size.
