The So Danca BAE23 uses traditional non-stretch canvas, so it should have comfortable growing room without excessive loose fabric.

Traditional Canvas Fit Note
Traditional canvas will soften but doesn't adapt around the foot like stretch canvas. Check that the toes can lie naturally and the heel remains reasonably secure.
The adjustable drawstring should only refine the topline, don't use it to compensate for an oversized shoe.

Allow the shoes to air naturally after every ballet class rather than leaving them closed inside a dance bag.

Gently spot clean the canvas when required and allow the shoes to dry naturally away from direct heat. Avoid soaking the suede sole pads.

BAE23 is the flexible sister style to the full sole BAE24. By separating the suede sole into forefoot and heel pads, the shoe allows greater freedom through the middle of the foot, making it easier for developing dancers to articulate through pointed positions while retaining the familiar feel of a traditional canvas ballet slipper.

BAE23 is a lovely straightforward option for children who don't need all the features of a premium stretch canvas shoe. The traditional canvas is soft and lightweight, while the split sole gives the foot more freedom to bend and articulate than a continuous full sole.

Full Sole or Split Sole - Which Does My Child Need?

The difference is underneath the shoe, and neither construction is automatically better for every young dancer.

Full Sole
A full sole runs continuously underneath the foot. It creates a more traditional feel and is commonly chosen for younger beginners, particularly where a dance teacher or school specifically requests a full sole ballet shoe.

Split Sole
A split sole separates the forefoot and heel pads, leaving the middle of the foot softer and more flexible. This gives the dancer greater freedom through the arch and can make pointing and articulating the foot feel easier.

Dance World Tip: If your child's ballet school specifies full sole or split sole shoes, always follow the teacher's uniform requirements first. If either construction is accepted, BAE24 offers the more traditional full-sole feel, while BAE23 gives the foot greater flexibility.

How should the BAE23 fit?

BAE23 is made from traditional non-stretch canvas. The fabric will soften through wear, but it won't mould around the foot in the same way as modern stretch canvas, so choosing sensible growing room is especially important.

The toes should lie naturally inside the shoe without curling, while the heel should remain reasonably secure. A small amount of growing room is useful, but excessive loose canvas around the toes usually indicates that the shoe is too large.

Fit Tip: The drawstring is designed to make small adjustments around the opening of the shoe. If you have to pull it very tightly to keep the shoe on the foot, check the size rather than relying on the drawstring to correct the fit.
