Size & Fit Advice

All shoes are displayed in UK sizes. The size printed on the shoe or box may differ due to the manufacturer's international sizing system.

The TA68 has a slightly generous fit and may feel wider than some closely fitted tap shoes.

Choose your usual size for an average or broader foot. Dancers with narrow feet may prefer approximately half a size smaller for a closer, more secure fit.

The leather upper will soften and gradually mould around the foot with wear. The toes should lie flat and the heel should remain stable without noticeable lifting.

Wear the same socks or tights you intend to use for class when checking the fit.

Try the shoes on clean carpet only. Tap plates showing scratches or floor wear cannot be accepted for return.

Care information

Wipe the leather upper with a soft, dry cloth after use. Apply a suitable black leather conditioner sparingly when required, testing it first on a discreet area.

Allow the shoes to air-dry naturally after training. Do not machine wash, tumble dry or place near direct heat.

Keep the metal taps dry and inspect the screws regularly. Loose taps can change the sound and damage studio flooring, so have them adjusted before the shoes are worn again.

Check the rubber metatarsal pads periodically for

Description

For dancers who love to feel every part of their foot moving, the So Danca TA68 Split-Sole Leather Tap Shoes bring a lighter, more expressive feel to tap class. Designed for intermediate and advanced dancers, they are a natural choice for rehearsals, choreography and performance work where speed, articulation and freedom matter.

Made from soft textured leather with a flexible split sole, the TA68 moves more closely with the foot than a traditional full-sole tap shoe. It is an easy, responsive option for dancers ready to explore a more mobile style of tap footwear.

So Danca TA68 Split-Sole Tap Shoes – Personality

Split-Sole Freedom • Lightweight Feel • Streamlined Oxford Style • Crisp Tap Sound

The Articulate Rhythm

Clean, understated and made to move, the TA68 has the timeless look of a black lace-up tap Oxford with a much lighter feeling underfoot. The smooth, close-fitting shape keeps the line neat for class and stage, while the split sole gives the shoe a more contemporary sense of freedom and expression.

So Danca TA68 Tap Shoes – Design & Performance

The textured Phoenix leather upper offers a soft but durable feel and gradually adapts around the foot with wear. A traditional lace-up front allows close adjustment across the instep, while protective rivets reinforce the lace holes for regular training.

Unlike a full-sole tap shoe, the TA68 has separate sole sections beneath the forefoot and heel. The flexible middle allows the foot to point and articulate with less resistance, making the shoe particularly responsive during intricate combinations, toe stands and choreography that requires a visibly active arch.

Screwed-on aluminium toe and heel taps create a crisp, direct sound. Rubber pads positioned at the metatarsals provide additional traction between the tap plates, helping the lightweight shoe feel controlled on smoother studio surfaces.

Inside, cushioned lining provides shock-absorbing comfort during longer rehearsals and repeated rhythm work. The low 1-inch heel keeps the dancer close to the floor, supporting balance and quick weight changes without the substantial build of a professional wood-heel Oxford.

Dance World Notes

When Articulation Matters More Than Weight

Why It Works: Removing the structured middle section allows the TA68 to bend much more freely through the arch. This gives experienced dancers greater access to their natural foot articulation without requiring them to work through a firm full sole.

Sound Character: Crisp, light and immediate. The TA68 responds quickly to smaller movements but does not create the same deep resonance or powerful projection as a built-up double-sole shoe such as the TA805 or TA815.

Training Value: A split sole provides freedom rather than additional support. It suits dancers who already have the foot and ankle strength to control that flexibility and should not automatically be treated as the next step after every beginner shoe.

Dance World Tip: Choose the TA68 when articulation, speed and a lightweight feel are more important to you than heavy resonance. If you want greater resistance, tonal depth and stage projection, a built-up full-sole Oxford may be the better direction. Try tap shoes on clean carpet only, as scratched or floor-worn taps cannot be accepted for return.
