Large - 6.5UK - 8.5UK

Men:
Small - 1UK - 3UK

Materials & Construction

Performance combines 20–30 mmHg graduated compression with reinforced support zones through the arch, Achilles and ankle.
Cushioned padding beneath the ball of the foot and heel helps reduce direct impact, while traction pods beneath the forefoot create an adjustable working surface for studio and stage floors.
The technical yarns are designed for breathability, moisture management, odour resistance and long-lasting elasticity.

Customisable Traction
Apolla traction starts deliberately strong and gradually breaks in as you dance. This lets the grip develop towards a level that suits your movement and floor surface.

On Performance Shock, traction is concentrated at the ball of the foot, leaving the remainder of the sole freer for turning and movement.
When you want more grip again, the traction can be refreshed rather than treating worn-down grip as the end of the sock's performance life.

Refresh the grip: Apolla E6000 Traction Spray

How Traction Works

How does the traction/grip work?

The Alpha Shock features refreshable grip technology. It starts sticky, giving you the traction of a pirouette shoe or a turner.
Apolla Grip Socks, like our Performance Shock, offer a revolutionary approach to traction. Unlike traditional dance shoes with fixed grip, Apolla's patented grip is customizable, allowing dancers to control challenging dance moves.

Here's how it works:
Initial Grip: The grip starts strong and sticky. This allows you to experience maximum traction from the moment you put them on.

Break-In Period: After a few uses, the grip will naturally wear down to your preferred level of traction allowing you to turn and glide smoothly. This break-in period allows you to personalize the grip to your individual dance style and the type of floor you dance on.

Grip Location: It's important to note that for The Performance Shock (and The Infinite sock profiles), the grip is located only on the ball of the foot, allowing for a combination of grip and freedom for pirouettes and control challenging technique. This differs from our AMP no-show profile, that has grip on the ball of the foot and heel strategically positioned to mimic a jazz shoe.

Refreshing the Grip: Once the grip has worn down to your liking, you can refresh it using our E6000 spray adhesive. This non-toxic spray reactivates the grip, allowing you to maintain your desired level of traction for the life of the sock.

Customization: You have complete control over your grip! If you prefer a stickier feel, refresh the grip more often. If you prefer less grip, allow the socks to wear down further before refreshing. Some dancers even use rosin, spray rosin, or hairspray for different levels of grip.

This process allows you to tailor the grip to your specific needs. You'll experience the perfect balance of control and freedom, whether you're turning, sliding, or performing any other movement.

Remember, it's essential to purchase the E6000 spray adhesive to refresh your grip and ensure optimal performance.

Care information

Machine wash on a gentle cycle, preferably inside a mesh laundry bag.
Avoid bleach, harsh detergents and fabric softener, as these can affect both the compression fibres and traction surface.
Keep toenails trimmed and avoid rough surfaces such as concrete that could snag the technical knit.
Apolla notes that washing also helps restore the traction performance.

Best For: Contemporary • Lyrical • Jazz • Modern • Musical Theatre • Turns & Jumps • Conventions • Multi-Style Training

Description

Supportive, cushioned and exceptionally versatile, the Apolla Performance Shock with Traction is designed for dancers who want considerably more from a studio sock than simple coverage.

Targeted 20–30 mmHg graduated compression supports the arch, ankle and Achilles, while cushioning beneath the ball and heel helps soften repeated impact. Add Apolla's customisable forefoot traction and Performance becomes a genuine all-round training option for turns, jumps, travelling work and long studio days.

Apolla Performance Shock Dance Socks – Personality

All-Round Support • Cushioned Protection • Custom Traction • Studio Endurance

The hardworking studio all-rounder. Performance is the Apolla for dancers who want everything working together: compression, cushioning, traction and full-foot coverage in one flexible crew-length sock.

The two Tan shades keep the look neutral and understated across different skin tones, while Black gives Performance a stronger, more technical studio finish.

Apolla Performance Shock Compression Socks – Design & Performance

Performance combines 20–30 mmHg graduated compression with targeted support through the arch, Achilles and ankle. Unlike an everyday compression sock, the construction is specifically engineered around the areas dancers repeatedly load during class, creating a secure and responsive feeling without introducing rigid structure.

Underfoot, cushioned padding at the ball of the foot and heel adds another dimension. This makes Performance noticeably more protective than minimalist contemporary footwear, particularly through repeated jumps, landings and long training sessions.

The traction version places customisable grip specifically beneath the ball of the foot. This is a clever distinction: rather than coating the entire sole, Apolla preserves greater freedom elsewhere while giving the dancer traction where it is most useful for control and challenging movement.

Like Alpha, the traction is designed to become personal. It begins noticeably grippy, gradually breaks in through dancing, and can be refreshed when you want more resistance again. This lets dancers find their own balance between grip and glide according to movement style and floor surface.

The crew profile finishes below the calf with a softer opening than Apolla's taller Infinite style, while a streamlined toe construction keeps the full-foot sock feeling close and performance-focused rather than bulky.

Dance World Notes – Apolla Performance Shock

The hardworking studio all-rounder.

This is probably the easiest Apolla to understand once you put the whole range side by side. Alpha gives you half-sole freedom and Joule prioritises exposed-foot support; Performance is the one we'd choose when comfort, support, traction and protection all need to work together through a full training day.

The traction is personal rather than permanent. Let the initial grip break in until it reaches the balance you like, then refresh it when necessary. That makes Performance particularly useful for dancers moving between different studios and floor surfaces.

Our overall impression: Performance earns its name. It isn't trying to feel completely barefoot; instead, it gives dancers a supportive, cushioned and highly adaptable working sock for demanding classes, rehearsals and convention days.
