Size & Fit Advice

All shoes are displayed in UK sizes. The size printed on the shoe or box may differ due to the manufacturer's international sizing system.

The Apolla Performance Shock is designed for a snug compression fit.

Women:
Small - 1UK - 3.5UK
Medium - 4UK - 6UK
Large - 6.5UK - 8.5UK

Men:
Small - 1UK - 3UK
Medium - 3.5UK - 5UK
Large - 5UK - 7UK

Performance sits below the bottom of the calf and has a softer opening for easier dressing. Its toe area is cut sleeker than Apolla Infinite for a closer fit through the front of the foot.

Expect considerably more resistance when putting Performance on than an everyday sock; that close fit is part of its supportive construction.

Fit guidance is intended as a starting point. Foot shape and personal compression preference can affect the final fit.

Materials & Construction

Performance uses Apolla's technical compression knit with patented arch support, targeted ankle stability and impact-absorbing cushioning.

The No Traction construction deliberately removes the grip treatment, creating a smoother sole for dancers who prioritise freedom through turns, pivots and travelling movement.

Care information

Machine wash on a gentle cycle, ideally inside a mesh laundry bag. Avoid harsh detergents and fabric softener, and keep toenails trimmed to reduce unnecessary wear to the technical knit. Avoid rough surfaces such as concrete that may snag the fabric.

Best For: Contemporary • Lyrical • Jazz • Modern • Turns & Glides • Floorwork • Long Rehearsals • Multi-Style Training

Description

All the support of Apolla Performance, deliberately without the grip. The Apolla Performance Shock No Traction combines substantial compression, cushioning and full-foot protection with a smooth sole designed for dancers who prefer to turn, pivot and glide without added traction underneath the foot.

The crew-length construction supports the arch and ankle while cushioning beneath the ball and heel helps soften repeated impact. What makes this version different is simple but important: nothing has been added to slow the foot down.

Apolla Performance Shock No Traction – Personality

Smooth Glide • Cushioned Protection • Arch Support • Studio Endurance

The freedom-first Performance. This is the Performance Shock for dancers who love everything about Apolla's supportive construction but don't want engineered grip deciding how their foot interacts with the floor. It feels secure around the foot while remaining intentionally free underneath it.

Black gives the No Traction Performance a clean, technical studio look that suits its straightforward performance personality.

Apolla Performance No Traction Dance Socks – Design & Performance

The foundation is the same supportive idea that makes Performance such a useful training sock. Targeted compression wraps around the arch and ankle, creating a secure feeling without introducing the rigidity of a conventional support or brace.

Underfoot, cushioning through the ball of the foot and heel adds protection against repeated impact. That makes Performance particularly useful through longer classes, rehearsals and training days where dancers want more between themselves and the floor than a minimalist half sole provides.

But the defining feature here is actually what's missing. There is no traction treatment on the sole, allowing the foot to pivot, glide and travel without the additional resistance of a grip system. Dance World describes this version specifically for dancers who want the support without the stickiness.

That makes No Traction particularly interesting for dancers who naturally prefer a smoother floor relationship. Instead of trying to create a prescribed balance between grip and release, it leaves more of that control to the dancer, their technique and the studio surface.

Apolla Performance No Traction Contemporary Footwear DNA™

Our Dance World Footwear DNA™ highlights the five characteristics that define how Contemporary footwear feels.

Floor Feel ●●●●○ Smooth sole allows a freer relationship with the floor despite the full-foot coverage and cushioning.
Turn Control ●●●○○ Easy rotation and glide, with control coming from the dancer rather than an engineered traction surface.
Flexibility ●●●●○ Flexible knitted construction moves naturally while compression keeps the foot feeling connected.
Protection ●●●●● Full-foot coverage plus cushioning through the ball and heel provides substantial studio protection.
Support ●●●●● Targeted compression and arch and ankle support create a strongly held, secure feel.

Higher score ≠ better. Dance World Contemporary Footwear DNA™ shows the balance and feel of the footwear, helping dancers compare different constructions and choose what suits their movement and floorwork.

Dance World Notes – Apolla Performance Shock No Traction

The freedom-first Performance.

Don't think of this as Performance with something missing. No Traction is a deliberate choice for dancers who prefer less resistance underneath the foot. You still get the supportive, cushioned Performance construction; the difference is that the floor interaction is left much more open.

We particularly like the distinction for dancers who already know they dislike sticky socks. There is no traction to break in, maintain or refresh - just a smooth working surface intended to let pivots, turns and travelling movement happen freely.

Our overall impression: choose Performance with Traction when you want Apolla to help manage the grip. Choose No Traction when you want the support and cushioning but prefer to manage the floor yourself.
