Use your body measurements rather than your everyday clothing size. Mara Dancewear uses different sizing across leotards, ballet skirts and warm-up pants, so always check the chart for the garment you are choosing. If your measurements fall between sizes, consider the measurement most important for that garment and your preferred fit.
Mara Dancewear Leotard Size Chart
Use your chest, waist, hips and girth measurements to find your recommended Mara Dancewear leotard size.
| Measurement | XXS | XS | S | M | L | XL |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chest | 78–82 cm 30"–32" | 82–86 cm 32"–34" | 86–90 cm 34"–36" | 90–94 cm 36"–38" | 94–98 cm 38"–40" | 98–102 cm 40"–42" |
| Waist | 58–62 cm 22"–23" | 62–66 cm 24"–25" | 66–70 cm 26"–27" | 70–74 cm 28"–29" | 74–78 cm 30"–31" | 78–82 cm 32"–33" |
| Hips | 84–88 cm 32"–34" | 88–92 cm 34"–36" | 92–96 cm 36"–38" | 96–100 cm 38"–40" | 100–104 cm 40"–42" | 104–108 cm 42"–44" |
| Girth | 125–132 cm 49"–52" | 132–139 cm 52"–55" | 139–146 cm 55"–58" | 146–153 cm 58"–61" | 153–160 cm 61"–64" | 167–174 cm 64"–67" |
For Mara leotards, girth is one of the most useful measurements because it reflects the dancer's full torso length. If your measurements fall across different sizes, pay particular attention to girth. Dancers with a longer torso may be more comfortable in the larger size.

How to Measure for Mara Dancewear
Measure over underwear or close-fitting clothing using a flexible tape measure. Stand naturally and keep the tape comfortably against the body without pulling it tight.

Girth
Key MeasurementUsing a flexible tape measure, start at the centre of one shoulder. Bring the tape down the front of the torso, through the crotch and back up the body to the same shoulder, creating one complete loop.
Keep the tape comfortably close to the body without pulling it tight. The dancer should stand naturally while being measured.
Chest
Measure around the fullest part of the chest, keeping the tape straight and level around the body. Keep the tape comfortably against the body without compressing it.
Waist
Measure around the natural waist, usually the narrowest part of the torso. Keep the tape level and do not pull it too tightly.
Hips
Measure around the fullest part of the hips and seat while standing naturally. Keep the tape level all the way around the body.
Height
Stand straight without shoes, with feet flat on the floor, and measure from the floor to the top of the head.
Mara Dancewear uses different size structures depending on the garment. For leotards, compare chest, waist, hips and especially girth. For skirts, waist and hips are the most useful measurements. For warm-up pants, use waist and hips together with Mara's height guidance to choose between XS/S and M/L.

A Little Warmth, Your Leotard Still on Show
The Mara Dancewear Knit Ballet Bolero Shrug adds soft warmth around the shoulders and arms without covering the front of your leotard. Long sleeves, functional thumbholes and a cropped, open-front shape make it an easy layer for warm-ups, barre and the quieter moments between classes.
Mara Dancewear Knit Ballet Bolero Shrug – Design & Performance
This is a warm-up for dancers who prefer their layers small and uncomplicated. The open-front bolero shape curves around the shoulders and covers the upper back, leaving the neckline and front of your leotard visible. Its cropped body stays clear of the waist, with no crossover panels, knots or ties to arrange over a skirt or warm-up trousers.
The soft rib-knit fabric gives the shrug its cosy character. Made from 48% viscose, 27% polyester, 21% nylon and 4% elastane, it feels soft against bare shoulders and arms while retaining stretch for movement. This is a different fabric from Mara Dancewear's ribbed leotards: the emphasis is on comfortable layering rather than compressive hold.
Long, close-fitting sleeves finish with functional thumbholes, allowing the fabric to extend over the wrists and part of the hands. Use them when you want that extra coverage, or leave the thumbs free when you prefer. The sleeve fit keeps the shape neat without the loose cuffs of an oversized jumper.
Made in Spain, the bolero offers gentle warmth where it covers the body rather than full-torso insulation. It is an easy addition to a layered studio wardrobe, worn over a leotard on its own or alongside your preferred warm-up bottoms and legwarmers. Bolero only; the leotard shown is not included.
Why Dancers Love the Mara Dancewear Knit Bolero
Keep Your Leotard Visible
The open front frames rather than covers your neckline. A lovely option when you want a warm-up layer without hiding the leotard you chose for class.
Extra Coverage at the Hands
Slip your thumbs through for coverage over the wrists and backs of the hands during the start of class, then leave them free when you prefer.
No Waist Ties to Arrange
The short body stays above your skirt or trouser waistband. There is no wrap overlap to position and no bow adding bulk around the torso.
Soft Against Bare Shoulders
The exceptionally soft knit is especially welcome over a camisole, where much of the warm-up sits directly against the skin rather than over another sleeve.
Mara Dancewear Knit Ballet Bolero Wear Profile
The Dance World Wear Profile highlights how each warm-up layer fits, feels and functions in the studio. This profile reflects the Mara Dancewear Knit Ballet Bolero specifically; individual fit, warmth and feel may vary.
Studio Experience
This is the kind of layer that makes sense when your arms want coverage but a whole jumper feels unnecessary. Slip it over a camisole for the start of barre, or put it back on during a rehearsal break. The open front leaves your neckline unchanged, while the thumbholes offer a little extra coverage at the hands without adding separate accessories.
Who Is This Best For?
Choose this if: you enjoy soft knitwear, prefer gentle warmth around the shoulders and arms, or want a cropped layer that leaves your leotard and waist visible. It is particularly useful over camisole and sleeveless styles when you don't want a wrap tied across the torso.
Consider a wrap or fuller warm-up top instead if: you want coverage across the chest and abdomen, an adjustable crossover fit, or more insulation during longer waits in a cold studio. The bolero's appeal is its open, minimal shape rather than all-over warmth.
Product Highlight
♡ Soft-Knit Studio Companion
The Mara Dancewear Knit Ballet Bolero brings together soft fabric, long thumbhole sleeves and an uncomplicated open front. It offers a little cosiness without taking over your studio outfit, a useful choice when you want warmth around the arms while keeping the leotard underneath on show.
