Before Choosing Your Size

Take dancewear measurements over underwear or close-fitting clothing using a flexible tape measure. For shoes, measure both feet while standing and use the longer foot as your starting point.

Bust / Chest Measure around the fullest part of the chest, keeping the tape straight and level around the body.

Waist Measure around the natural waist, usually the narrowest part of the torso.

Hips Measure around the fullest part of the hips and seat, keeping the tape level.

Girth Start at one shoulder, measure down the front of the torso, through the crotch and back to the same shoulder in one continuous loop.

Foot Length Measure from heel to longest toe while standing. Measure both feet and use the longer measurement.

The So Danca JZE09 Children's Jazz Shoes are a classic lace-up style designed to give young dancers a secure, adjustable fit. Made from soft leather with a flexible split rubber sole, they combine traditional jazz-shoe structure with plenty of freedom for pointing, turning and travelling movement.

The adjustable laces are particularly useful for growing dancers, allowing the shoe to be refined around the instep and different foot shapes while the soft leather gradually moulds with wear.

The JZE09 is a more traditional alternative to our stretch and slip-on jazz shoes. Its soft leather upper provides a little more structure around the foot, while the laces allow parents and dancers to adjust the fit comfortably across the instep.

Underneath, separate rubber forefoot and heel pads create the split sole. This keeps the middle of the foot flexible for pointing and movement while giving young dancers controlled traction against the studio floor.

The leather may feel a little more structured when new, but it gradually softens and moulds around the foot with regular wear. Available in White, Black, Tan and Caramel, JZE09 also covers an unusually wide range of dance-school and performance requirements. Are Lace-Up Jazz Shoes Better for Growing Feet?

Laces can make fitting a growing dancer easier because they allow you to adjust how closely the shoe sits across the instep and width of the foot. This can be particularly helpful for children whose feet don't naturally suit a fixed slip-on shape.

However, laces adjust the volume of the shoe – not its length. They cannot make an oversized jazz shoe fit correctly if there is too much space around the heel or too much length beyond the toes.

For JZE09, aim for a comfortably close fit first and use the laces to fine-tune it. The leather will also soften and adapt naturally as your child wears the shoes.

Dance World Tip

Don't buy extra length just because the laces can be tightened. JZE09 should still hold the heel securely and move with your child's foot. Too much growing room can allow the foot to slide inside the shoe and leave unnecessary material beyond the toes.

How Should Children's JZE09 Jazz Shoes Fit?

JZE09 should feel comfortably close around the foot, with the toes able to lie naturally and the heel securely held. The laces can then be adjusted to refine the fit across the instep.

Always measure your child's feet rather than using their current everyday shoe size. School shoes and trainers may already include growing room and can give a misleading starting point for dance shoes.

Start with true to the measured foot size
Up to ½ size above measured foot where a little additional room is genuinely needed

Quick fit check: Lace both shoes comfortably, then ask your child to stand, walk and point. The toes should remain relaxed, the heel should stay securely connected and there should not be excessive shoe extending beyond the toes.
