Description
Description
Almost invisible in movement but surprisingly supportive around the foot, the Apolla Joule Shock is a technical compression dance sleeve designed for dancers who want additional arch and ankle support without covering the areas they use to connect with the floor.
The open-toe and open-heel construction leaves the ball of the foot, toes and heel completely exposed, while targeted 20–30 mmHg compression wraps around the arch and ankle. Worn barefoot or inside dance shoes, Joule adds support without introducing a conventional sole, traction pad or bulky brace.
Apolla Joule Shock Dance Sleeve – Personality
Targeted Compression • Arch Support • Barefoot Feel • Invisible Support
The support you feel more than you see. Joule is deliberately different from conventional contemporary footwear. Rather than putting something between the dancer and the floor, it concentrates its technology around the arch and ankle while leaving the major contact points of the foot completely free.
Tan keeps the look subtle and barefoot-inspired, Pink feels softer and more classically dance-led, while Black gives Joule a stronger, more technical studio look.
Apolla Joule Shock Compression Sleeve – Design & Performance
Joule's defining feature is its open-toe, open-heel construction. The toes, ball of the foot and heel remain exposed, allowing the dancer's own skin to make direct contact with the floor. There is no added traction surface to alter that connection, floor feel remains genuinely barefoot.
Around that exposed foot, Apolla builds in 20–30 mmHg targeted graduated compression through the arch and ankle. The close knitted structure is designed to create a held, connected sensation while remaining flexible enough to move naturally through pointing, flexing, relevé and floorwork.
The higher ankle coverage is where Joule separates itself most clearly from Alpha. Support extends around the ankle while the foot remains remarkably unrestricted, creating a useful middle ground for dancers who want more stability but dislike the bulk and movement restriction of a conventional ankle support.
Its exceptionally low-profile construction also makes Joule unusually versatile. It can be worn barefoot for contemporary, lyrical and modern work or inside/over ballet, pointe, jazz and character shoes when the dancer wants additional compression without significantly changing the fit or floor surface of the shoe.

Dance World Notes – Apolla Joule Shock
The invisible support specialist.
Joule makes much more sense once you stop thinking of it as a sock. Nothing has been added beneath the important contact points of the foot; the technology sits around them. You still feel barefoot, but the arch and ankle feel considerably more held.
Dancers particularly seem to value how supportive it feels without becoming restrictive. Feedback repeatedly mentions the combination of compression and freedom, and the slim construction means Joule can move from barefoot contemporary work straight into ballet or other dance shoes without needing a completely different support solution.
Our overall impression: this is the Apolla we'd look at first when ankle and arch support matter more than added traction. It preserves genuine floor contact while quietly doing a surprising amount of work around the foot.
NOTE: Unlike full-foot sock options, there is no right or left foot for the Joule. There is, however, a right side up! Be careful to NOT wear them upside down.
