Never choose a dance shoe from conversion alone. Ballet, jazz, ballroom and character shoes can fit very differently depending on the last, upper material, width and intended level of compression. Use this table to understand international equivalents, then follow the fit advice for the individual shoe.
How to Measure Your Feet for Dance Shoes
Measure both feet while standing, preferably later in the day. Use the longer foot when comparing your measurement with a shoe size chart.
Foot Length
Key MeasurementStand with your heel lightly against a wall and place your foot flat on a sheet of paper. Mark the end of your longest toe and measure the distance from the wall to the mark.
Measure in centimetres for the most accurate comparison with international shoe charts.
Measure Both Feet
Repeat the measurement on the other foot. It is very common for one foot to be slightly longer than the other, so always use the larger measurement when choosing your starting size.
Foot Width
Measure across or around the widest part of the forefoot. Width can be just as important as length in dance shoes, particularly in fitted ballet, jazz and ballroom styles.
Measure While Standing
Take measurements with your full weight on your feet. Standing allows the foot to spread naturally and gives a more realistic measurement than measuring while sitting.
Check the Dance Fit
A correctly fitted dance shoe should feel secure without restricting the toes or causing pressure. Different dance disciplines require different amounts of growing room, compression and heel security, so always follow the model-specific Dance World Fit Advice.
This chart is designed as an international reference rather than a replacement for individual brand sizing. Bloch, Capezio, So Danca, IDS, PortDance, Diamant and other dance footwear brands may use their own conversion systems or fit differently from standard street shoes. Always use the individual product's Dance World Fit Advice where available.

Supportive, beautifully contoured and designed to hold its shape through serious training, the Hullachan Pro H4 Irish Dancing Pumps are built around an innovative elastic arch enhancer that draws the shoe securely beneath the dancer’s foot.
Rather than relying only on a pre-lasted shape, H4 uses a responsive three-point support system to maintain a defined arch profile as the dancer moves, and after the soft leather begins to settle with wear. A higher heel seat, seam-free toe and cushioned Clever Insole complete this distinctive performance construction.

H4 has a clean, traditional black stage appearance, but its real personality comes from the shape it creates beneath the foot. The elasticated arch system continuously draws the middle of the pump upward, creating a more sculpted line that remains visible through pointing, footwork and repeated wear.
Hullachan Pro H4 Irish Dancing Pumps – Design & Performance
The defining feature of the Hullachan Pro H4 is its elasticated arch enhancer. Attached to the pump at three key points, this dynamic support system follows the movement of the foot while drawing the leather securely beneath the arch.
Unlike the H3, H4 does not require an additional arch eyelet. The enhancer provides its support automatically, creating a consistent contoured fit without asking the dancer to thread or repeatedly adjust the lacing beneath the arch. This makes the shoe simpler to lace while helping maintain its characteristic shape.
The system is particularly useful because a traditional pre-shaped pump can gradually appear flatter as its leather softens. H4’s elastic support continues working after break-in, helping the shoe retain a defined profile rather than relying entirely on the original shape of the last.
The upper is made from the same softer leather used in the Hullachan H3. It has enough give to become more personal with wear while being designed to resist excessive stretching. Inside, Hullachan’s signature red suede finish gives the shoe a quietly distinctive detail that remains hidden during performance.
At the back, a higher heel seat provides additional coverage and helps hold the pump securely around the heel through fast footwork, jumps and pointing. The close heel works together with the arch enhancer to keep the upper connected to the foot rather than allowing it to shift independently during movement.
The front is constructed without an internal toe seam, helping reduce friction across an area that can become particularly sensitive in closely fitted pumps. Underneath, the split suede sole allows the forefoot and heel to move independently, supporting flexibility, articulation and a clean pointed line.
H4 is completed with Hullachan’s multi-layer Clever Insole. Dual cushioning beneath the toe and heel helps soften repeated impact, while a moisture-wicking Camberelle covering supports comfort during longer training sessions and protects the underlying Poron material.

A higher score does not necessarily mean a better shoe - it shows the balance of comfort, flexibility, arch definition, cushioning and floor feel so dancers can choose the model best suited to their training and performance needs.
Dance World Notes
Best matched to a defined arch: This is a particularly strong option for dancers with a naturally defined or higher arch who find ordinary pumps loose beneath the middle of the foot. A dancer with a flatter or lower arch may find the same close contour unnecessarily restrictive.
Comfort is carefully placed: H4 is not padded heavily throughout. Its layered protection is concentrated beneath the toe and heel, where repeated impact is greatest, allowing the middle of the shoe to remain flexible and responsive.
Dance World Tip – Check the arch before judging the length. Place the heel fully into the higher heel seat, centre the foot and lace the pump evenly. The elastic enhancer should sit beneath and follow the dancer’s arch. If it feels as though it is pulling against a flatter foot rather than supporting it, H4 may not be the best shape even when the length appears correct.
Hullachan Pro H4 Dance World Fit Advice
Close through the toes. Lifted beneath the arch. Secure in the higher heel.
H4 should fit closely around the entire foot, with the elastic enhancer following the dancer’s natural arch and the higher heel seat remaining securely in position. The upper should not bag, twist or move independently from the foot when pointing.
