How to Measure for a Leotard
Measure over underwear or close-fitting clothing using a flexible tape measure. Stand naturally and keep the tape comfortably against the body without pulling it tight.

Girth
Key MeasurementUsing a flexible tape measure, start at the centre of one shoulder. Bring the tape down the front of the torso, through the crotch and back up the body to the same shoulder, creating one complete loop.
Keep the tape close to the body without pulling it tight. The dancer should stand naturally while being measured.
Bust
Measure around the fullest part of the chest, keeping the tape straight and level around the body.
Waist
Measure around the natural waist, usually the narrowest part of the torso. Do not pull the tape too tightly.
Hips
Measure around the fullest part of the hips and seat, keeping the tape level.
Height
Stand straight without shoes and measure from the floor to the top of the head.
For leotards, girth is one of the most important measurements because it reflects the dancer's full torso length. If your measurements fall across different sizes, pay particular attention to girth. Dancers with a longer torso will often be more comfortable in the larger size.

Description
Description
The Diamant DanceArt 217 Latin Competition Dance Shoe is built for dancers who want considerably more freedom from their footwear. Lightweight, exceptionally flexible and shaped around a five-strap open forefoot, it allows the foot to articulate through Latin movement rather than fighting against a heavily structured sole.
Diamant DanceArt 217 Personality
Precise • Flexible • Responsive • Competition-Ready
The 217 feels like a completely different side of Diamant. Gone is the reassuring, enclosed character of a traditional social shoe; DanceArt is lighter, more exposed and much more interested in what the foot is doing. The dark tan satin keeps the silhouette competition-classic, while the flexible construction and delicate multi-strap forefoot let the dancer's own articulation become part of the look.
Diamant DanceArt 217 Latin Shoes - Design & Performance
The defining feature of the DanceArt 217 is its exceptionally flexible construction. Rather than holding the foot in a more rigid platform, the shoe is designed to move closely with it, allowing significantly greater articulation through the forefoot during pointing, weight transfer and expressive Latin footwork.
At the front, five individually stitched satin straps form an open cage around the toes and forefoot. Their job isn't purely decorative. The multiple narrow sections can adapt around the shape of the foot more naturally than a single solid vamp, creating close contact while leaving the toes visually exposed for a clean Latin line.
The 5cm flare heel gives our version an interesting performance balance. It provides the lifted posture expected from a Latin shoe, but its moderate height and flared base make it considerably more approachable than the very high competition heels often associated with professional Latin footwear. For dancers who value speed and articulation but don't want an extreme heel height, that combination makes a lot of sense.
The satin heel cup holds the back of the foot while the adjustable strap wraps securely around the ankle. Underneath, a professional suede dance sole keeps the dancer connected to the floor, allowing turns and pivots while retaining the controlled grip required for changes of direction and weight.
Inside, breathable Italian microfibre helps manage moisture without adding unnecessary bulk. The overall construction remains intentionally light: this is not a shoe designed to cushion the dancer away from the floor, but one designed to make the foot feel responsive, mobile and connected.

The Dance World Ballroom Shoe DNA™ compares the defining characteristics of Ballroom and Latin dance shoes. A higher score does not necessarily mean a better shoe - it shows the balance of comfort, stability, flexibility, floor control and support.
Dance World Notes
This is where DanceArt earns its name.
The difference is immediately noticeable when you flex the shoe in your hands. The 217 gives far more readily than Diamant's traditional social styles, allowing experienced dancers to work through the foot rather than waiting for the shoe to follow.
Professional doesn't have to mean a towering heel.
Our 5cm version is particularly interesting because the performance construction remains uncompromised while the lower flare heel offers a more manageable platform. A great option for serious dancers who want articulation without moving into a very high Latin heel.
Dance World Fit Advice
Overall Fit
The DanceArt 217 generally fits true to size, with the close fit expected from a performance Latin sandal. Start with your normal UK dance shoe size.
Width & Forefoot
The 217 is made in Diamant's F regular width. The six individual forefoot straps adapt around the foot, but dancers with a particularly full or wide forefoot may prefer to try the next half size where appropriate.
Dance World sizing recommendations are intended as a guide. Competition shoe fit is highly individual and can vary with foot width, toe shape, instep height and personal preference.
Dance World Tip - Don't judge the 217 against a more structured social shoe by asking which feels more supportive. The point of DanceArt is different. Choose this model when you want the shoe to allow articulation, respond quickly and interfere as little as possible with the movement of the foot.
