Before Choosing Your Size

Take dancewear measurements over underwear or close-fitting clothing using a flexible tape measure. For shoes, measure both feet while standing and use the longer foot as your starting point.

Bust / Chest Measure around the fullest part of the chest, keeping the tape straight and level around the body.

Waist Measure around the natural waist, usually the narrowest part of the torso.

Hips Measure around the fullest part of the hips and seat, keeping the tape level.

Girth Start at one shoulder, measure down the front of the torso, through the crotch and back to the same shoulder in one continuous loop.

Foot Length Measure from heel to longest toe while standing. Measure both feet and use the longer measurement.

Why Choose Mary Jane Tap Shoes?

Mary Jane tap shoes combine a secure instep strap with a classic open-front shape. The strap helps keep the foot connected to the shoe, while the buckle allows parents to adjust the fit as needed.

The TA06 is a lovely option when a dance school prefers a more traditional appearance than a Velcro shoe. Its slim strap looks neat with uniforms and costumes, making the style equally useful for weekly classes and early stage performances.

Younger children may initially need help with the buckle, but once adjusted it should sit comfortably across the instep without pressing into the foot. Check that it is fastened securely before every class.

How Should Children’s Tap Shoes Fit?

Children’s tap shoes should feel close and secure without squeezing. The toes should lie naturally and flat inside the shoe, while the back should hold the heel securely when your child walks and taps.

Always measure your child’s feet rather than relying on their current school-shoe or trainer size. Everyday footwear often already contains growing room, making it an unreliable guide for fitted dance shoes.

The TA06 generally fits true to size. Begin with the measured foot size and compare it with the current So Danca size guide. If your child is between sizes, has a wider foot or will wear socks for class, approximately half a size up may provide a more comfortable starting point.

A small amount of sensible growing room is acceptable, but avoid buying the shoe noticeably loose. Too much movement inside a tap shoe makes it harder for children to balance, control the taps and produce a clean sound.

Quick fit check: Fasten the buckle, then ask your child to walk, rise onto the toes and make a few gentle toe-and-heel movements. The toes should remain flat, the strap should stay comfortable and the heel should not noticeably lift or slide.
