Think of Charlene as the happy middle ground of the character-shoe wardrobe. There's enough heel to give the leg a little more theatrical presence, but it still feels grounded and approachable for regular class and rehearsal wear. Black keeps things wonderfully classic and stage-ready, while Tan creates a softer, more continuous look through the leg.

The defining difference is the 2" wrapped character heel. It gives CH52 a little more height and stage presence than a low 1.5" character shoe, while retaining a broad enough base to feel stable and practical for regular training, musical theatre and performance.
The smooth synthetic leather upper creates a polished finish, with a flattering vamp shaping the front of the foot and an adjustable instep strap helping keep the shoe securely positioned. Inside, generous cushioning softens the feel underfoot - something dancers will appreciate when rehearsal runs into rehearsal and nobody seems quite ready to call it a day.

This is the kind of character shoe that can earn its keep. The heel is high enough to create a polished theatrical silhouette, low enough to remain versatile, and the cushioning makes it a particularly friendly choice when you're going to be in your shoes for hours rather than one short routine.
Don't judge them in the first five minutes.
A new character shoe should feel secure, and CH52 can initially feel more structured than your everyday footwear. Give the upper and sole a little rehearsal time to settle before deciding exactly how they feel, preferably before opening night rather than during it.
And when should you move to 3"?
For dancers heading towards full-time dance college or professional musical-theatre training, becoming confident in a higher character heel is an important progression. CH52 is a brilliant working 2" shoe, but it doesn't necessarily replace the experience of learning to dance securely in a 3" heel when your training calls for it.
