General Size Advice for Capezio Dancewear
-
Girth is the Most Important Measurement
When selecting dancewear, the most relevant measurement is the girth (also known as torso length). To measure accurately, start at one shoulder, pass the tape measure through the legs, and bring it back to the same shoulder. This ensures the best fit for leotards and unitards. -
Size Up if in Doubt
If you find yourself between two sizes, we recommend choosing the larger size. A snug fit is essential, but dancewear should allow for flexibility and movement without restriction. -
Fabric Differences Affect Fit
- Lace leotards tend to have a smaller fit due to the fabric’s reduced elasticity. If you are considering a lace leotard, you may want to size up for a more comfortable fit.
- Tulle leotards offer a bit more stretch, making them slightly more forgiving in terms of sizing.
By following these guidelines, you can ensure the best fit and comfort for your dancewear. If you need further assistance, reach out for personalized advice.

Description
Description
A true studio classic, the Capezio E-Series EJ2 Adult Leather Slip-On Jazz Shoes combine a soft leather upper with an arch-hugging neoprene insert and flexible split sole. Their close, low-profile shape follows the foot cleanly through jazz technique, musical theatre, commercial choreography and everyday rehearsals.
The lace-free design makes EJ2 particularly convenient for quick changes, while its absorbent cotton lining, soft Achilles topline and foam-padded insole bring welcome comfort to longer classes. Suitable for beginner through advanced dancers, this is the dependable Capezio jazz shoe that has earned its place in studios around the world.
Capezio E-Series EJ2 Personality
Iconic • Streamlined • Dependable • Studio-Ready
EJ2 has the instantly recognisable look of a classic leather jazz shoe: low at the sides, clean across the arch and uninterrupted by laces. Black feels timeless and rehearsal-ready, while Tan and Caramel create a softer leg line for performance, costuming and skin-tone coordination.
Capezio E-Series EJ2 Leather Jazz Shoes – Design & Performance
The EJ2 begins with a soft yet durable leather upper that feels polished enough for performance while remaining practical for regular studio use. Leather gradually becomes more personal with wear, settling around the toes and forefoot for the close, connected fit dancers expect from a traditional jazz shoe.
Through the centre of the foot, a flexible neoprene arch insert stretches as the dancer points and flexes. This helps the shoe remain close beneath the arch instead of gathering or bunching, preserving a cleaner line while allowing the foot to articulate naturally.
The split-sole construction separates the forefoot and heel contact areas, leaving the middle of the shoe free to move. An EVA rubber sole patch provides dependable studio traction beneath the forefoot, while the low-profile heel keeps the dancer grounded and stable through travelling steps, weight changes and turns.
Inside, an absorbent cotton lining helps manage moisture, while the foam-padded insole softens contact beneath the foot. EJ2 is therefore not an ultra-bare jazz shoe: it retains clear floor awareness while offering more underfoot comfort than a completely unpadded construction.
Low sides keep the silhouette streamlined, and the soft topline sits gently around the Achilles. With no laces to adjust or come undone, EJ2 slips on quickly and stays visually neat throughout class, rehearsal and performance.

The Dance World Jazz Shoe DNA™ compares the defining studio characteristics of every jazz shoe. A higher score does not necessarily mean a better shoe—it shows the balance of comfort, flexibility, articulation, grip and floor feel so dancers can choose the construction that best suits their training and preferred studio feel.
Dance World Notes
Why EJ2 remains a studio classic: It brings together the polished appearance of leather, the convenience of a slip-on and the flexibility of a stretch arch. It is uncomplicated, dependable and versatile enough to take a dancer from a weekly jazz class into rehearsals and performance.
A cleaner arch without aggressive shaping: The neoprene insert stretches beneath the arch as the foot points, helping prevent the loose folds sometimes seen in an all-leather middle section. The shoe follows the dancer’s own line rather than trying to manufacture one.
Comfort without losing the floor: The foam-padded insole takes the edge off repeated studio contact, but the low-profile split sole still allows clear awareness of weight placement and floor pressure.
The surface makes a difference: EVA rubber provides dependable traction, though it can feel grippier than suede on certain Marley floors. Dancers accustomed to a very free-turning suede sole may notice a more controlled, grounded sensation.
Dance World Tip – Fit the heel before the leather relaxes. The upper will gradually settle with wear, so begin with a secure heel and a neat fit through the forefoot. A new pair that already slips or bags is unlikely to become more secure over time.
Capezio E-Series EJ2 Dance World Fit Advice
Close through the foot. Secure at the heel.
The E-Series EJ2 is designed to sit closely around the foot, with its flexible neoprene insert adapting smoothly through the arch. We generally recommend true to measured foot size through to ½ size up for adults, depending on foot shape and preferred fit.
The toes should lie naturally and lightly meet the front without curling or restriction. The heel must remain securely held during walking, pointing, rises and turns, with no noticeable slipping or excess leather at the back.
For younger dancers, approximately ½ to 1 full size up can allow for practical growth, provided the heel remains secure and the shoe stays neat through the toes and arch.
Dance World Fit Note: Always start from the dancer’s measured foot, not the size of their everyday shoes. The stretch arch can adapt around different instep heights, but the low sides mean heel security is especially important. Dance World displays converted UK sizing, so the size printed inside the shoe may differ from the size ordered.
