Ballet Rosa dancewear is designed for a close, professional ballet fit. Use your actual body measurements rather than everyday clothing size. For leotards and unitards, girth is particularly important because it reflects the full length of the torso. If you are between sizes or have a longer torso, the larger size is often the more comfortable starting point.

For Ballet Rosa leotards, girth is the most useful measurement when sizes disagree. A dancer can have a small bust and waist but still need the next size because of torso length. If the girth is close to the upper limit, or the dancer has a longer torso, sizing up usually gives a more comfortable result without losing the close ballet silhouette.
How to Measure for Ballet Rosa Dancewear
Measure over underwear or close-fitting clothing using a flexible tape measure. Stand naturally and keep the tape comfortably against the body without pulling it tight.

Girth
Key MeasurementUsing a flexible tape measure, start at the centre of one shoulder. Bring the tape down the front of the torso, through the crotch and back up to the same shoulder, creating one complete loop.
Keep the tape comfortably close to the body without pulling it tight. For Ballet Rosa leotards, girth is especially important when deciding between two sizes.
Bust / Chest
Measure around the fullest part of the bust or chest, keeping the tape straight and level around the body and comfortably close without compressing it.
Waist
Measure around the natural waist, usually the narrowest part of the torso. Keep the tape level and do not pull it too tightly.
Hips
Stand with the feet together and measure around the fullest part of the hips and seat. Keep the tape straight and level around the body.
Height
Stand straight without shoes, with feet flat on the floor, and measure from the floor to the top of the head.
Ballet Rosa does not use height directly in this women and girls garment chart, but it is useful when considering overall body proportion and whether a longer-torso fit may be needed.
Ballet Rosa adult sizes correspond approximately to 36 = XS/Petite, 38 = Small, 40 = Medium, 42 = Large and 44 = XL. The garments are intended to fit closely, but torso length is particularly important in leotards. If the dancer has a longer torso or the girth sits near the top of a size range, consider the next size up. Ballet Rosa also notes that a Long Torso adjustment of approximately 2 cm / 1" can sometimes be appropriate.

Where a Ballet Camisole Becomes Art
The Ballet Rosa Chaucer leotard presents a beautifully clean V-front before revealing an intricate strappy back framed by transparent embroidered mesh. Cascading curved lines create softness and movement, giving this classical camisole silhouette a distinctly artistic second view.
Ballet Rosa Chaucer Strappy Back Camisole Leotard – Design & Performance
Chaucer begins with the simplicity dancers love in a classic camisole leotard. The softly shaped V-neckline opens the upper body without feeling overly low, while the smooth Matte Lycra creates an uninterrupted front line that looks composed at the barre and through centre work.
From the back, the design becomes more expressive. Fine straps divide and cross above a sheer stretch-mesh panel, creating a delicate geometric framework across the shoulders. Multiple embroidered curves descend through the mesh in softly draped layers, bringing texture and fluidity to the design without adding weight or bulk.
The flexible Lycra body follows the torso closely, while the open shoulder line allows comfortable freedom through port de bras. A refined ballet-cut leg completes this professional dance leotard, balancing its artistic back with a practical silhouette for regular training, auditions and performance.
Why Dancers Love the Ballet Rosa Chaucer Leotard
Ballet Rosa Chaucer Wear Profile
The Dance World Wear Profile highlights how each design fits, feels and functions in the studio. Individual fit and feel may vary.
Studio Experience
Chaucer feels composed and uncomplicated from the front, making it easy for teachers to see the neckline, torso and shoulder placement clearly. The camisole shape keeps the arms open and unrestricted, while the close Matte Lycra body moves smoothly through adage, turns and faster centre combinations.
The back becomes especially noticeable in mirrors, photographs and choreography involving directional changes. Correct girth remains important: a leotard that is too short may pull on the crossing straps or prevent the embroidered mesh from sitting smoothly. Once dressed, gently settle each strap into position and allow the curved embroidery to fall naturally across the back.
The Fontainebleau Collection – Beauty in the Unexpected
Chaucer captures the expressive contrast at the heart of Ballet Rosa’s Fontainebleau Collection. Its front feels classical, restrained and immediately wearable, while the back introduces transparent mesh, fine straps and embroidery arranged like suspended lines in motion.
This balance makes Chaucer especially versatile. It remains refined enough for everyday ballet training, yet its intricate second view gives it the distinctive character dancers often look for in audition, performance and photographic dancewear.
Product Highlight
〰 Embroidery in Motion
Chaucer proves that a camisole leotard can remain beautifully simple while still creating a memorable impression. The crossing straps and descending embroidered curves transform the sheer back panel into a piece of moving linework, while the uninterrupted V-front keeps the overall design refined.
Why We Recommend It
Chaucer offers dancers the ease of a clean studio leotard with a back that feels genuinely special. It is an excellent choice when you want elegance and individuality without losing the simplicity of a classical camisole shape.
Dance World Tip
Keep embroidered mesh away from Velcro, jewellery and rough warm-up fabrics to help prevent snagging.
