If the girth is close to the upper limit, or the dancer has a longer torso, sizing up usually gives a more comfortable result without losing the close ballet silhouette.
How to Measure for Ballet Rosa Dancewear
Measure over underwear or close-fitting clothing using a flexible tape measure. Stand naturally and keep the tape comfortably against the body without pulling it tight.

Ballet Rosa adult sizes correspond approximately to 36 = XS/Petite, 38 = Small, 40 = Medium, 42 = Large and 44 = XL. The garments are intended to fit closely, but torso length is particularly important in leotards. If the dancer has a longer torso or the girth sits near the top of a size range, consider the next size up. Ballet Rosa also notes that a Long Torso adjustment of approximately 2 cm / 1" can sometimes be appropriate.
