SD143 has a little more Broadway swagger about it. The substantial 3" heel gives the shoe a strong stage presence, while the crossing straps make the foot feel beautifully contained when choreography gets busy. Black is pure backstage-to-curtain-up theatre; Caramel keeps the leg line warm, polished and wonderfully classic.

The SD143 is built around a 3" thick shaped heel with a hidden reinforced brace, combining professional stage height with a reassuringly substantial base. It still asks for the balance and control expected from a 3" character shoe, but the broader heel construction gives the dancer a strong platform underneath.

Across the foot, an adjustable X-strap creates excellent security. Rather than relying on a single instep strap, the crossing construction wraps the shoe closely around the foot, while an additional arch strap helps maintain contact between the foot and shoe. For quick changes of direction, travelling choreography and long stage sequences, that connected feeling can be particularly reassuring.

The upper is made from soft genuine leather, with elastic gussets around the metatarsals adding flexibility where dancers need it most. Instead of the forefoot feeling locked inside a rigid high-heeled shoe, the gussets allow the upper to respond more naturally as the foot moves.

Underneath, a full suede sole gives SD143 the controlled glide experienced performers often prefer for turns and pivots. Combined with the cushioned interior, soft leather and secure strap system, it creates a shoe very much at home in musical theatre, cabaret and demanding stage choreography.

Some dancers barely notice how their character shoe fastens; others absolutely do. If you belong to the second camp, SD143 is worth trying. The crossing straps create a wonderfully connected feeling through the centre of the foot, particularly when choreography gets fast, directional or slightly chaotic, as Broadway choreography has a habit of doing.

Don't underestimate suede on a busy stage shoe.
Once choreography includes repeated turns, pivots and fast direction changes, being able to move across the floor without fighting your sole becomes important. Suede gives SD143 that smoother response. Keep it clean, brush it when needed and please don't take it sightseeing between the studio and theatre.
