CH98 looks elegant, but underneath the pretty T-strap there's a proper working shoe. The broader base beneath the 3" heel adds welcome confidence, while soft leather gradually settles around the foot as you dance. Black is classic theatre through and through; Caramel gives that high heel a beautifully uninterrupted, leg-lengthening finish.

The CH98 is built around a 3" braced character heel with a wider contact base. You still get the height, pitch and elongated line expected from a professional character shoe, but the broader base beneath the heel creates a more substantial platform against the floor than a slimmer 3" silhouette.

Across the foot, the classic T-strap adds another layer of security. It anchors through the centre of the shoe before wrapping around the ankle, helping the shoe feel neatly connected to the foot through turns, travelling choreography and quick directional changes.

The upper is made from soft genuine leather, which gradually moulds to the foot rather than retaining the firmer feel of a synthetic upper. Inside, a cushioned lining and substantial padding beneath the ball of the foot help manage the extra forefoot pressure that naturally comes with dancing at a 3" pitch.

Underneath, the full scored leather sole keeps CH98 firmly in traditional character-shoe territory. It provides controlled traction and a structured connection with the floor rather than the softer glide of suede, a combination particularly well suited to advanced musical theatre training, stage choreography and professional performance.

3" doesn't always mean the same thing.
Put CH98 beside CH53 and this becomes much easier to understand. They're both 3" professional character shoes, but CH98 gives you a noticeably broader heel base. You're still responsible for controlling a high heel, there's no magic shortcut there - but the extra contact underneath can make that height feel more reassuring.

T-strap or single strap?
Partly personal preference, partly how you like your shoe to feel. CH53 keeps the upper beautifully simple with a classic instep strap; CH98's T-strap runs through the centre of the foot and can give a more connected, wrapped-in feeling. For dancers who like plenty of security in faster choreography, it's a lovely detail.

Leather is worth talking about here.
CH98 costs more than some of the synthetic character shoes in the collection, but you're getting a soft genuine-leather upper. Give it some rehearsal time and that leather begins to mould around your foot. For a shoe you're wearing regularly through college, rehearsals or professional work, that can be a very worthwhile difference.

Your first 3" heel? Give yourself time.
The wider base makes CH98 an appealing option if you're progressing into professional-height character shoes, but don't mistake more stability for less technique. Start with straightforward class work, become comfortable with your weight placement and build up to faster choreography. By audition day, the shoes should feel familiar - not like two very elegant strangers attached to your feet.
