Size & Fit Advice

All shoes are displayed in UK sizes. The size printed on the shoe or box may differ due to the manufacturer's international sizing system.

The So Danca BAE26 is shaped specifically for the male foot, with a higher and wider vamp than many standard ballet slippers.

Advanced & Professional Dancers
For a close professional ballet fit, we recommend beginning approximately ½ UK size above your normal UK shoe size.

Students & Adult Beginners
Approximately ½-1 UK size above your normal UK shoe size is also our preferred starting point for a secure everyday studio fit.

BAE26 Men's Fit Note
BAE26 is particularly worth considering for dancers who find conventional ballet shoes too shallow across the front of the foot. Its higher, wider vamp provides additional coverage and room through the forefoot while retaining a clean ballet silhouette.

Care information

Allow the BAE26 to air naturally after every class rather than leaving the shoes closed inside a dance bag.

For light marks, gently spot clean the canvas with a soft damp cloth and mild detergent where required. Avoid soaking the shoes, particularly the suede sole pads, and allow them to dry naturally away from radiators and direct heat.

The suede forefoot and heel pads can be gently brushed when required to remove loose surface dirt and maintain their texture.

Description

The So Danca BAE26 Men's Canvas Ballet Shoes offer a lightweight alternative to traditional leather men's ballet shoes, combining breathable canvas with a flexible split sole and stretch insert beneath the arch. Designed around the proportions of a male foot, the higher, wider vamp provides comfortable coverage while allowing the foot to move naturally through class and rehearsal.

Available in Black and White with extended men's sizing, BAE26 is an uncomplicated studio shoe for dancers who prefer the lighter feel of canvas but still want control over how their elastics sit. The crossed elastics arrive half-sewn, allowing the final position and tension to be customised to the individual foot.

So Danca BAE26 Ballet Shoe Personality

Lightweight • Flexible • Practical • Customisable

BAE26 is the lighter canvas counterpart to the leather BAE22. It keeps the men's-specific proportions, flexible arch construction and personalised elastic placement, but replaces the more substantial leather upper with breathable canvas.

The result is a ballet shoe that feels lighter and less substantial around the foot from the beginning. The canvas keeps things straightforward and practical for regular training, while the flexible insert underneath the arch prevents the midfoot from feeling unnecessarily restricted.

For male dancers who don't necessarily want the ultra-sculpted, second-skin character of a modern stretch canvas shoe, BAE26 offers a useful middle ground: traditional canvas feel, men's-specific proportions and good flexibility through the arch.

Design & Performance

The canvas upper keeps BAE26 lightweight and breathable for regular studio training. Its men's-specific construction uses a higher, wider vamp to provide comfortable coverage across a larger foot while maintaining a clean traditional ballet shape.

Underneath, separate suede forefoot and heel pads form the split sole, leaving the centre of the foot free to articulate naturally. This creates better flexibility through tendu, relevé and pointed positions than a traditional continuous sole.

A stretch nylon/spandex insert beneath the arch adds further flexibility through the midfoot and helps the shoe follow the instep more closely when the foot is pointed.

The crossed elastics are supplied half-sewn. One end is already attached to the shoe, while the remaining end can be positioned according to the dancer's individual instep before being stitched securely into place. It gives BAE26 some of the convenience of a pre-attached elastic while preserving the fitting advantage of custom placement.

Available in Black and White with extended men's sizing, BAE26 is a practical option for male dancers wanting a traditional canvas ballet shoe without sacrificing flexibility or individual fit.

Dance World Expert Tip

BAE26 is a particularly useful choice if standard ballet shoes feel too shallow across the front of your foot. Its men's-specific higher and wider vamp gives more coverage than many conventional ballet slippers, while the flexible arch insert prevents that additional coverage from making the shoe feel unnecessarily restrictive.

Before completing the elastics, try both shoes on and move through demi-plié, tendu and pointe. One end of each elastic is already attached, so experiment with the remaining position and tension until the shoe feels secure without the straps cutting into the instep. Only then stitch them permanently into place.

So Danca BAE26 Fit Advice

Professional & Advanced Dancers

For a close professional fit, we recommend beginning approximately ½ UK size above your normal UK shoe size. This reflects our current Dance World fitting and returns experience with BAE26.

Students & Adult Beginners

Approximately ½-1 UK size above your normal UK shoe size is also our preferred starting point for a secure everyday ballet fit.

BAE26 Men's Fit Note

BAE26 is shaped specifically for the male foot, with a higher, wider vamp than many standard ballet slippers. This makes it particularly worth considering for dancers who find lower-cut shoes too shallow or restrictive across the forefoot.

The canvas should sit comfortably around the foot without forcing the toes to curl or leaving excessive loose material. The stretch insert beneath the arch provides flexibility and allows the centre of the shoe to follow the foot more naturally. Once the overall size is correct, use the half-sewn crossed elastics to personalise the final strap position and tension.

Always confirm the shoe size before completing or trimming the elastics.

Dance World Fit Advice is intended as a helpful starting point rather than a guarantee of fit. Foot shape, width, instep height and personal preference all influence the ideal ballet shoe fit.
