Size & Fit Advice

All shoes are displayed in UK sizes. The size printed on the shoe or box may differ due to the manufacturer's international sizing system.

The So Danca BAE13 has the familiar fit of a traditional canvas ballet shoe, with additional flexibility underneath the arch.

Advanced & Experienced Dancers
For a close ballet fit, begin around measured foot size to approximately ½ UK size above, depending on foot shape and personal preference.

Growing Students & Adult Beginners
Approximately 1 UK size above measured foot length is our recommended starting point for a comfortable everyday ballet fit.

First Ballet Shoes & Young Dancers
For younger dancers requiring growing room, approximately 2 UK sizes above measured foot length is our usual starting point.

BAE13 Fit Note
BAE13 uses traditional canvas across the main upper, with a stretch nylon insert underneath the arch. This gives the centre of the shoe greater adaptability, but the overall shoe should still be correctly sized rather than relying on the flexible section to compensate for an incorrect fit.
The toes should lie naturally without curling, the heel should remain secure and there should not be excessive loose canvas around the forefoot.

Most importantly:
Fit first. Sew second.

Care information

Allow BAE13 ballet shoes to air naturally after class rather than leaving them closed inside a dance bag.

Gently spot clean the canvas when necessary and allow the shoes to air dry naturally away from direct heat. Avoid soaking the suede sole pads.

Check the elastics and stitching periodically, particularly when the shoes are being worn frequently. If sewing the elastics yourself, make sure they are attached securely to the shoe lining without stitching through the external drawstring casing.

Best For Everyday Ballet Class • Adult Ballet • Students • Intermediate Dancers • Rehearsals • Traditional Canvas Lovers • Custom Elastic Placement • Dancers Who Prefer to Sew Their Own Elastics

Description

The So Danca BAE13 Canvas Ballet Shoes bring a useful custom-fit detail to a traditional canvas ballet slipper. Lightweight canvas combines with a flexible split suede sole and stretch nylon insert beneath the arch, giving the foot greater freedom through pointed positions while retaining the familiar feel of a classic canvas shoe.

Unlike most modern ballet slippers, the elastics are partially attached. Rather than accepting a factory-set position and tension, dancers can place and stitch the elastic to suit their own foot and instep. Available in Pink, White and Black, BAE13 is a straightforward, affordable studio shoe with more opportunity for personal adjustment than its simple appearance suggests.

So Danca BAE13 Ballet Shoe Personality

Customisable • Flexible • Traditional • Uncomplicated

BAE13 sits somewhere interesting between old-school canvas construction and a more flexible modern fit. The main canvas upper keeps the familiar character of a traditional ballet slipper, while the stretch nylon section underneath the arch allows the middle of the shoe to follow the foot more closely through movement.

Its other defining feature is wonderfully traditional: you sew the elastic yourself. For dancers who find factory-set elastics too tight, too loose or simply positioned in the wrong place for their instep, BAE13 gives back control over where the strap sits and how secure it feels.

So Danca BAE13 Canvas Split Sole Ballet Shoes - Design & Performance

The lightweight canvas upper provides the familiar feel of a traditional ballet shoe, with soft cotton lining inside for everyday studio comfort. Underneath the foot, separate suede forefoot and heel pads create a flexible split sole for good floor connection and natural articulation.

A stretch nylon insert beneath the arch distinguishes BAE13 from a completely traditional canvas split sole. As the foot points, this flexible central section allows the shoe to follow the movement of the arch more naturally, helping reduce some of the stiffness and excess material associated with older canvas constructions.

The elastics are deliberately supplied partially attached. This allows dancers to choose their own strap position and tension before permanently stitching them into place - particularly useful for different instep shapes or for dancers who simply know exactly how they like their ballet shoe elastics to sit.

The shoe uses a universal construction with no designated left or right when new. Available in Pink, White and Black, BAE13 remains an accessible everyday option for dancers who appreciate traditional canvas but want a little extra flexibility and personalisation.

Dance World Expert Tip

Don't sew the elastics until you're completely happy with the shoe size. Put both shoes on first, stand and move through a few basic ballet positions, then decide where the elastic feels most secure across your individual foot. The advantage of BAE13 is that you can choose both placement and tension rather than adapting your foot to a factory-set strap.

Once you're satisfied with the fit, mark the elastic position, remove the shoes and sew the straps securely into place.

So Danca BAE13 Fit Advice

Advanced & Experienced Dancers

For dancers wanting a close performance fit, begin around your measured foot size to approximately ½ UK size above, depending on foot shape and personal preference.

Growing Students & Adult Beginners

For most dancers, approximately 1-1.5 UK size above measured foot length provides a comfortable everyday ballet fit while keeping the heel and forefoot connected.

First Ballet Shoes & Young Dancers

For younger dancers requiring growing room, approximately 1.5-2 UK sizes above measured foot length is our usual starting point.

BAE13 Fit Note

The BAE13 combines a canvas upper with a stretch nylon section underneath the arch. The central section therefore has more adaptability than a completely traditional canvas shoe, but don't rely on this flexibility to compensate for an incorrect overall size.

The toes should lie naturally without curling, and the heel should remain reasonably secure. Once the shoe itself fits correctly, use the unsewn elastic to personalise how securely it sits across the instep.

Always confirm the size before sewing the elastics.

Dance World Fit Advice is intended as a helpful starting point rather than a guarantee of fit. Always measure the dancer's foot rather than relying solely on everyday shoe size. Foot shape, width and personal preference all influence the ideal fit.
