For fitted dancewear and leotards, girth is particularly important because it reflects the full length of the torso. For children's garments, use age only as a starting point and prioritise actual body measurements whenever possible.

Take dancewear measurements over underwear or close-fitting clothing using a flexible tape measure. For shoes, measure both feet while standing and use the longer foot as your starting point.
So Danca makes a wide range of dancewear and footwear, so fit can vary between styles. For garments, use the measurement chart that matches the wearer and product category. For tights, compare both height and weight. For dance shoes, use the international conversion table as a reference only and always follow the model-specific Dance World Fit Advice shown on the individual product page.
JZ44 Open Arch Split Sole Jazz Shoes for Dance & Teaching - Caramel / 1 UK is backordered and will ship as soon as it is back in stock.
Best For Jazz • Contemporary • Lyrical • Dance Teachers • Rehearsals • Ballroom & Latin Practice Crossover
Description
Description
Open, incredibly flexible and almost barefoot through the arch, the So Danca JZ44 Open Arch Jazz Shoe is a very different proposition from a traditional leather jazz shoe. Its cut-away construction leaves the centre of the foot almost completely exposed, creating exceptional articulation and an unusually direct connection with the floor.
A favourite style for experienced dancers and teachers, JZ44 crosses easily between jazz, contemporary, lyrical and teaching – and can even work as a lightweight alternative for some ballroom and Latin practice.
Personality
Open • Articulate • Barefoot-Like • Unrestricted
JZ44 is for dancers who enjoy feeling very little between themselves and the floor. Black gives the shoe a clean, versatile studio look, while Caramel visually softens the open construction and blends particularly naturally with the leg. Neither feels like a conventional jazz shoe once it's on – this is much closer to dancing with the foot exposed.
So Danca JZ44 Open Arch Jazz Shoes – Design & Performance
The defining feature of JZ44 is impossible to miss: most of the arch is completely open. Instead of joining the forefoot and heel with leather, canvas or stretch fabric beneath the midfoot, the construction leaves the centre exposed and uses stretch sections around the foot to hold the two ends together.
The result is exceptional freedom. There is virtually no shoe resisting the arch as the dancer points, making JZ44 one of the most articulate styles in our jazz collection. The stretch nylon/spandex upper sits softly against the foot and adapts readily to its shape, while the open sides allow considerably more ventilation than a conventional closed jazz shoe.
That freedom comes with a trade-off. JZ44 relies heavily on a close, controlled fit. There is less material stabilising the relationship between forefoot and heel, so if the shoe is fitted too generously the heel can move or twist rather than remaining aligned with the dancer's foot.
Underneath, a suede forefoot pad creates a smooth turning surface rather than the stronger traction of a rubber forefoot. The separate rubber heel provides the more secure contact point behind it. This combination makes JZ44 particularly interesting for dancers crossing between different disciplines, where easy pivots and an articulate foot can be more useful than maximum rubber grip.
The open construction also makes JZ44 a natural option for experienced teachers who move between jazz, contemporary and other studio classes throughout the day. It offers considerably more freedom than a structured teaching shoe, while the defined heel gives it a little more presence beneath the foot than a ballet slipper.

●●●●●
The Dance World Jazz Shoe DNA™ compares the defining characteristics of every jazz shoe. A higher score does not necessarily mean a better shoe - it shows the balance of comfort, flexibility, articulation, grip and floor feel so dancers can find the shoe that best suits their training and performance needs.
Dance World Notes
Freedom rather than structure: JZ44 doesn't physically hold the foot together in the way JZ76, JZ77 or a lace-up leather jazz shoe does. The dancer needs to feel comfortable controlling a very open, responsive shoe.
Dance World Tip - Fit the heel first. With JZ44, a little extra length can create a much bigger problem than it would in a conventional closed jazz shoe. If the heel can move independently or twist when you rise, turn or point, the shoe is too generous.
So Danca JZ44 – Dance World Fit Advice
Close is best – we generally recommend 1 size down.
For the secure, responsive fit this design needs, our preferred starting point is ½-1 size below the dancer's measured foot size. The stretch nylon/spandex upper adapts around the foot, so JZ44 should feel intentionally close when new.
Some dancers – depending on foot shape and personal preference – may prefer true to measured size. We would not recommend sizing up in this model.
Dance World Fit Note: Pay particular attention to the heel. Because the centre of the shoe is so open, an oversized JZ44 can allow the heel section to move or twist independently from the foot. The heel should remain securely aligned as you walk, rise, point and turn.
Fit advice is a guide only. Foot shape, width and preferred performance fit can affect the best size for each dancer.
