Size & Fit Advice

All shoes are displayed in UK sizes. The size printed on the shoe or box may differ due to the manufacturer's international sizing system.

Fit: Generally true to size.

Start with your regular street-shoe size. The knitted upper should feel comfortably close without compressing the toes, while the laces allow useful adjustment through the instep.

For dancers who prefer additional room or need slightly more space, ½ size up can be considered. Because the upper is soft and flexible, we wouldn't recommend deliberately buying excessive length simply for width. The shoe should still feel securely connected to the foot during turns.

Care information

Spot clean the knitted upper with a soft damp cloth and mild soap. Avoid harsh cleaners, soaking or machine washing.

Allow the shoes to air dry naturally away from radiators or direct heat. After long sessions, remove the anatomical insole and allow both the shoe and insole to air separately.

Keep the outsole clean so the spinning areas can work as intended, and avoid exposing a dedicated dance sole to rough outdoor surfaces unnecessarily.

Description

The PortDance Groovies Trainer is what happens when the comfort of a trainer finally learns how to dance. Lightweight, flexible and softly cushioned, this black knitted sneaker is designed for dancers who want freedom through the foot without giving up the familiar comfort of a lace-up trainer.

PortDance Groovies Trainer Personality

Light • Cushioned • Spin-Happy • Easy-Going

Groovies feels reassuringly familiar the moment you put it on, and then you start turning. The sleek Black Knit keeps the look clean and understated, while the flexible construction gives it a much softer, more dance-friendly personality than an everyday trainer. It's the sort of shoe you put on for one class and accidentally leave on for the rest of the evening.

PortDance Groovies Trainer - Design & Performance

The biggest difference between Groovies and an ordinary sneaker is underneath. Its split-sole construction allows the forefoot and heel to work more independently, giving the shoe far greater freedom through the arch and making detailed footwork feel considerably less restricted.

The lightweight PU outsole includes dedicated spinning points, designed to reduce unnecessary drag through pivots and turns. That makes Groovies particularly appealing for Salsa, Bachata, Kizomba, social Ballroom and other dance styles where repeated rotation can make a regular rubber trainer feel far too sticky. PortDance specifically designed the Groovies sole around smooth, fast turning and fluid movement.

Above the sole, the breathable knitted textile upper is soft and flexible around the foot, while a removable anatomical insole adds cushioning and support beneath it. The result is a shoe that feels much closer to a comfortable everyday trainer while still responding like footwear made specifically for dancing.

And unlike a traditional heeled practice shoe, there's virtually no adjustment period to the height. The low-profile base keeps you close to the floor - particularly useful for dancers who prefer to practise without spending every session in Latin or Ballroom heels.

Dance World Notes

Yes, the spinning points really matter.
Anyone who has tried Salsa or social dancing in ordinary trainers knows the problem - too much rubber grip and suddenly every turn feels like your foot and the floor are negotiating separate contracts. Groovies keeps the familiar sneaker feel, but the dedicated spinning areas allow the foot to rotate much more freely.

A very good “I don't want heels tonight” shoe.
Ballroom and Latin dancers don't always want to practise every hour in their performance heels. Groovies gives you a flat, cushioned alternative while still allowing turns and footwork to happen properly - particularly useful for long workshops, social nights and rehearsal days when comfort eventually wins the argument.

But don't confuse them with running shoes.
They may look like trainers, but the split sole and spinning points are designed specifically around dance movement. That's exactly why they feel so different through turns. We'd keep them for studio, social and dance-floor use rather than treating them as your everyday outdoor walking shoe.

And the removable insole is more useful than it sounds.
You can take it out to air the shoe after a long session, or replace it if you use your own preferred insert.
