International shoe sizes can vary slightly between brands and models. Use your measured foot length as the best starting point, then compare it with the individual brand's size recommendation. Where a product page gives model-specific sizing advice, that guidance should always take priority over a general conversion chart.

Never choose a dance shoe from conversion alone. Ballet, jazz, ballroom and character shoes can fit very differently depending on the last, upper material, width and intended level of compression. Use this table to understand international equivalents, then follow the fit advice for the individual shoe.
How to Measure Your Feet for Dance Shoes
Measure both feet while standing, preferably later in the day. Use the longer foot when comparing your measurement with a shoe size chart.
Foot Length
Key MeasurementStand with your heel lightly against a wall and place your foot flat on a sheet of paper. Mark the end of your longest toe and measure the distance from the wall to the mark.
Measure in centimetres for the most accurate comparison with international shoe charts.
Measure Both Feet
Repeat the measurement on the other foot. It is very common for one foot to be slightly longer than the other, so always use the larger measurement when choosing your starting size.
Foot Width
Measure across or around the widest part of the forefoot. Width can be just as important as length in dance shoes, particularly in fitted ballet, jazz and ballroom styles.
Measure While Standing
Take measurements with your full weight on your feet. Standing allows the foot to spread naturally and gives a more realistic measurement than measuring while sitting.
Check the Dance Fit
A correctly fitted dance shoe should feel secure without restricting the toes or causing pressure. Different dance disciplines require different amounts of growing room, compression and heel security, so always follow the model-specific Dance World Fit Advice.
This chart is designed as an international reference rather than a replacement for individual brand sizing. Bloch, Capezio, So Danca, IDS, PortDance, Diamant and other dance footwear brands may use their own conversion systems or fit differently from standard street shoes. Always use the individual product's Dance World Fit Advice where available.
Noiré Cuban Professional Dance Shoes • 40mm Heel, Black Sequins Nubuck - Black / 4 UK / 37 EU is backordered and will ship as soon as it is back in stock.
Best For: Advanced Dancers • Ballroom & Latin • Salsa & Bachata • Kizomba • Intensive Training • Workshops • Performance
Description
Description
The PortDance PD Noiré Cuban sits somewhere between a serious training shoe and something you'd happily take onto the stage. A stable 40mm Cuban heel, highly flexible suede split sole and shock-absorbing construction give advanced dancers the control needed for demanding training, while black nubuck and light-catching Noiré sequins make it considerably more polished than the average practice shoe.
PortDance PD Noiré Cuban Personality
Technical • Grounded • Articulated • After-Dark
Noiré Cuban isn't trying very hard to look like a sensible practice shoe. Black nubuck keeps the silhouette sophisticated, while the sequin panels react to changing light rather than sitting as a flat decorative surface. Underneath all that shine, however, is a surprisingly serious technical shoe - stable through the heel, flexible through the arch and designed for dancers who expect considerably more than comfort from their training footwear.
PortDance PD Noiré Cuban Professional Dance Shoes - Design & Performance
The 40mm Cuban heel is central to the Noiré Cuban concept. It preserves the grounded stability dancers associate with a training shoe while introducing enough pitch to encourage a more developed dance position. For advanced dancers moving repeatedly between intensive training, coaching, socials and performance, that creates a particularly useful middle ground.
But the real performance story is underneath. Unlike a traditional full-sole practice shoe, Noiré Cuban uses a suede split sole, allowing significantly greater articulation through the arch and forefoot. The foot can point, flex and work more independently while retaining the controlled glide and grip of a proper suede dance surface.
This combination makes Noiré Cuban particularly interesting for Latin and rhythm-led styles. The low Cuban heel keeps weight changes grounded and manageable, while the split construction allows considerably more freedom through rapid footwork, turns and articulated movement than we'd expect from a conventional low-heeled training shoe.
Inside, a lightweight shock-absorbing core helps reduce impact during demanding sessions, while the removable insole gives dancers the option to adjust the internal set-up or simply remove it for easier maintenance. The lace-up front then allows the fit to be fine-tuned through the instep and helps keep the foot connected as the split sole flexes underneath it.
And then there is the Noiré finish. Soft black nubuck is combined with high-shine sequins designed to reflect light organically as the dancer moves. Rather than behaving like a flat glitter surface, the appearance shifts with movement and lighting - one reason this shoe can move so convincingly from studio to stage.

The Dance World Dance Shoe DNA™ compares the defining characteristics of Ballroom, Latin and practice shoes. A higher score does not necessarily mean a better shoe - it shows the balance of comfort, stability, flexibility, floor control and support.
Dance World Notes
Not your traditional practice shoe.
The split sole completely changes the character of Noiré Cuban. It keeps the reassurance of a low Cuban heel but gives experienced dancers considerably more freedom through the arch than a conventional full-sole training shoe.
And we really like the removable insole.
It's a small technical detail, but a useful one in a shoe designed for serious training: easier maintenance and more freedom to personalise the internal feel.
Dance World Fit Advice
Overall Fit
The PortDance PD Noiré Cuban fits true to size with a close, performance-oriented feel. Start with your normal UK dance shoe size.
Adjustability
The lace-up front allows the shoe to be adjusted through the instep and helps keep the foot securely connected to the flexible split sole.
Breaking In
The soft nubuck upper will gradually adapt around the individual foot with wear, while the split construction is designed to feel flexible rather than requiring the longer structural break-in associated with a traditional full sole.
Dance World sizing recommendations are intended as a guide. Dance shoe fit is individual and can vary with foot width, instep height, toe shape and personal preference.
Dance World Tip - Don't choose Noiré Cuban simply because you want a comfortable low heel. Choose it because you want low-heel stability without sacrificing articulation. If you're an experienced dancer who normally finds traditional practice shoes a little too structured through the arch, this is where Noiré becomes particularly interesting.
