International shoe sizes can vary slightly between brands and models. Use your measured foot length as the best starting point, then compare it with the individual brand's size recommendation. Where a product page gives model-specific sizing advice, that guidance should always take priority over a general conversion chart.

Never choose a dance shoe from conversion alone. Ballet, jazz, ballroom and character shoes can fit very differently depending on the last, upper material, width and intended level of compression. Use this table to understand international equivalents, then follow the fit advice for the individual shoe.
How to Measure Your Feet for Dance Shoes
Measure both feet while standing, preferably later in the day. Use the longer foot when comparing your measurement with a shoe size chart.
Foot Length
Key MeasurementStand with your heel lightly against a wall and place your foot flat on a sheet of paper. Mark the end of your longest toe and measure the distance from the wall to the mark.
Measure in centimetres for the most accurate comparison with international shoe charts.
Measure Both Feet
Repeat the measurement on the other foot. It is very common for one foot to be slightly longer than the other, so always use the larger measurement when choosing your starting size.
Foot Width
Measure across or around the widest part of the forefoot. Width can be just as important as length in dance shoes, particularly in fitted ballet, jazz and ballroom styles.
Measure While Standing
Take measurements with your full weight on your feet. Standing allows the foot to spread naturally and gives a more realistic measurement than measuring while sitting.
Check the Dance Fit
A correctly fitted dance shoe should feel secure without restricting the toes or causing pressure. Different dance disciplines require different amounts of growing room, compression and heel security, so always follow the model-specific Dance World Fit Advice.
This chart is designed as an international reference rather than a replacement for individual brand sizing. Bloch, Capezio, So Danca, IDS, PortDance, Diamant and other dance footwear brands may use their own conversion systems or fit differently from standard street shoes. Always use the individual product's Dance World Fit Advice where available.

Best For: Latin • Salsa • Bachata • Social Dancing • Practice • Rehearsals • Performance • Longer Dance Sessions
Description
Description
The PortDance PD804 50mm Dance Shoes prove that a statement dance shoe doesn't need sparkle or a towering heel. Soft black nubuck, sculpted cut-outs and an intricate lace-up front create a contemporary bootie silhouette, while the lower 50mm heel keeps the overall feel grounded and wonderfully wearable.
PortDance PD804 Personality
Modern • Understated • Secure • Confident
PD804 is the quiet one in this part of the PortDance collection, but definitely not the boring one. Tonal black nubuck lets the architecture of the shoe do the talking: curved cut-outs, layered panels and criss-cross lacing create interest without relying on glitter or embellishment.
PortDance PD804 Black Nubuck Dance Shoes – Design & Performance
The defining feature of PD804 is its high, cage-style upper. Multiple nubuck panels wrap around the foot and ankle, while the central lace system allows the fit to be adjusted through the front of the shoe. Compared with a traditional strappy Latin sandal, it creates a much more enclosed and connected sensation around the foot.
A full back zipper makes the design considerably more practical than its intricate appearance suggests. Once you've adjusted the lacing to your preferred fit, the rear zip provides straightforward entry and removal without having to completely re-lace the shoe every time.
Underneath, the 50mm dance heel keeps the dancer closer to the floor than PortDance's higher fashion-led heels. Combined with the suede dance outsole, it makes PD804 particularly appealing for dancers who want the elegance of a heel but prioritise control, security and wearability through practice sessions, socials and longer evenings.

Dance World Notes
A heel for dancers who don't really want a traditional dance heel.
That's where we think PD804 becomes particularly interesting. The bootie-inspired upper feels much more contemporary than a classic Ballroom sandal, yet underneath it is still very much a dance shoe.
And yes - this is our quiet PortDance.
No crystals. No glitter heel. No bronze satin. Just black-on-black texture and a really interesting silhouette. After some of the personalities we've just met, PD804 feels almost restrained, and we rather like it that way.
Dance World Fit Advice
Overall Fit
PD804 should feel close around the foot and ankle without the lacing needing to be pulled excessively tight.
Adjust the Laces First
Take a little time on the first wear to distribute the lacing evenly from the forefoot upward. This helps the cage-style upper follow your individual foot shape rather than creating one tight pressure point.
Then Use the Zip
Once you've found a comfortable lace setting, the rear zipper can become your everyday entry point, helping preserve your preferred adjustment between wears.
PD804 Fit Note
The higher upper gives a very different sensation from an open Latin sandal. Choose PD804 if you enjoy feeling more enclosed and held around the ankle rather than wanting the barely-there feel of fine straps.
Dance World sizing recommendations are intended as a starting point. Dance shoe fit is individual and can vary with foot width, instep height, ankle shape and personal preference.
