For Mara leotards, girth is one of the most useful measurements because it reflects the dancer's full torso length. If your measurements fall across different sizes, pay particular attention to girth. Dancers with a longer torso may be more comfortable in the larger size.

How to Measure for Mara Dancewear
Measure over underwear or close-fitting clothing using a flexible tape measure. Stand naturally and keep the tape comfortably against the body without pulling it tight.
Girth
Key MeasurementUsing a flexible tape measure, start at the centre of one shoulder. Bring the tape down the front of the torso, through the crotch and back up the body to the same shoulder, creating one complete loop.
Keep the tape comfortably close to the body without pulling it tight. The dancer should stand naturally while being measured.
Chest
Measure around the fullest part of the chest, keeping the tape straight and level around the body. Keep the tape comfortably against the body without compressing it.
Waist
Measure around the natural waist, usually the narrowest part of the torso. Keep the tape level and do not pull it too tightly.
Hips
Measure around the fullest part of the hips and seat while standing naturally. Keep the tape level all the way around the body.
Height
Stand straight without shoes, with feet flat on the floor, and measure from the floor to the top of the head.
Mara Dancewear uses different size structures depending on the garment. For leotards, compare chest, waist, hips and especially girth. For skirts, waist and hips are the most useful measurements. For warm-up pants, use waist and hips together with Mara's height guidance to choose between XS/S and M/L.

The biggest difference here is the fabric. Rather than the wool, acrylic or knitted construction traditionally associated with ballet crossover tops, Mara uses a smooth nylon-and-elastane performance fabric with an exceptionally soft, almost second-skin feel.
That makes this particularly interesting for dancers who find traditional knitted warm-ups itchy, scratchy or simply too bulky. There is no coarse yarn sitting against the neck, arms or décolleté; instead, the fabric feels sleek and gentle against bare skin while still adding a useful layer over a leotard.
The classic crossover front can be wrapped to suit the dancer and secured with long waist ties. This gives considerably more fit flexibility than a fixed pull-on top, while the overlapping fabric naturally creates additional coverage through the torso.
Long fitted sleeves extend neatly over the wrist and finish with integrated thumb loops. It's a small dancer-friendly detail we particularly like: they help keep the sleeves extended over the hands during warm-up without requiring a heavier cuff.

Studio Experience
This is a warm-up top we can easily imagine dancers leaving on beyond the warm-up. It is light and stretchy enough for barre, while the fitted sleeves allow the teacher to see the arms clearly. The wrap can also be adjusted rather than simply being either “on” or “off”, which is useful as the body warms throughout class.
The thumb loops are particularly nice during those first colder combinations. Slip the thumbs through and the sleeves extend over part of the hands; release them later and the sleeves sit normally at the wrist.
And because the fabric is so light, the top folds down remarkably small — useful when your dance bag is already competing for space with pointe shoes, skirts and recovery gear.
