Use your body measurements rather than your everyday clothing size. Mara Dancewear uses different sizing across leotards, ballet skirts and warm-up pants, so always check the chart for the garment you are choosing. If your measurements fall between sizes, consider the measurement most important for that garment and your preferred fit.
Mara Dancewear Leotard Size Chart
Use your chest, waist, hips and girth measurements to find your recommended Mara Dancewear leotard size.
| Measurement | XXS | XS | S | M | L | XL |

| Waist | 58–62 cm 22"–23" | 62–66 cm 24"–25" | 66–70 cm 26"–27" | 70–74 cm 28"–29" | 74–78 cm 30"–31" | 78–82 cm 32"–33" |

For Mara leotards, girth is one of the most useful measurements because it reflects the dancer's full torso length. If your measurements fall across different sizes, pay particular attention to girth. Dancers with a longer torso may be more comfortable in the larger size.

How to Measure for Mara Dancewear
Measure over underwear or close-fitting clothing using a flexible tape measure. Stand naturally and keep the tape comfortably against the body without pulling it tight.

Girth
Key MeasurementUsing a flexible tape measure, start at the centre of one shoulder. Bring the tape down the front of the torso, through the crotch and back up the body to the same shoulder, creating one complete loop.
Keep the tape comfortably close to the body without pulling it tight. The dancer should stand naturally while being measured.
Chest
Measure around the fullest part of the chest, keeping the tape straight and level around the body. Keep the tape comfortably against the body without compressing it.
Waist
Measure around the natural waist, usually the narrowest part of the torso. Keep the tape level and do not pull it too tightly.
Hips
Measure around the fullest part of the hips and seat while standing naturally. Keep the tape level all the way around the body.
Height
Stand straight without shoes, with feet flat on the floor, and measure from the floor to the top of the head.
Mara Dancewear uses different size structures depending on the garment. For leotards, compare chest, waist, hips and especially girth. For skirts, waist and hips are the most useful measurements. For warm-up pants, use waist and hips together with Mara's height guidance to choose between XS/S and M/L.

Warm Up Without Weighing Down
Warm-up pants don't need to be thick to do their job. The Mara Dancewear Lightweight Ballet Warm-Up Pants in Light Green create an incredibly light outer layer designed to help dancers maintain comfortable muscle warmth while keeping movement free and unrestricted.
Made from fine, airy nylon, they have the lightweight feel dancers often associate with traditional “trash bag” warm-ups, but with a softer, quieter and beautifully understated Mara finish. The relaxed silhouette leaves plenty of room to move, while elasticated ankles gently taper the leg and keep excess fabric away from the feet.
What makes this pair particularly useful is the balance between warmth, breathability and weight. They take the chill away without cocooning the legs in a heavy insulating layer, making them especially useful through warm-up and barre, between classes, backstage and during long rehearsal days.
Mara Dancewear Ballet Warm-Up Pants – Design & Performance
The defining feature of these Mara warm-up pants is their ultra-light nylon construction. Rather than relying on thick knitted or brushed fabric for warmth, the fine outer layer helps retain comfortable warmth around the legs while remaining breathable, light and extremely easy to move in.
The silhouette is intentionally relaxed rather than fitted. Extra room through the hips and legs allows for pliés, stretching, développés and floor work without the restrictive feeling that can sometimes come from closely cut non-stretch warm-up fabrics.
A simple pull-on elasticated waistband keeps the construction uncomplicated, with no drawstrings, zips or bulky fastenings sitting over a leotard. At the lower leg, elasticated ankle cuffs taper the silhouette and help prevent loose fabric from falling towards the feet.
There's another small detail dancers will appreciate: they're relatively quiet in motion. Lightweight nylon warm-ups can sometimes produce a surprisingly noticeable swish during class. These still have the natural soft sound of a technical woven fabric, but movement is considerably more discreet than some traditional crisp “trash bag” styles.

The Dance World Warm-Up Profile compares how different dance warm-ups balance insulation, breathability, weight, movement, fabric sound and packability. A higher score does not necessarily mean a better product - it shows the characteristics of the garment so dancers can choose the warm-up layer that best suits their training.
What Dancers Notice
There is an important difference between feeling warm and feeling hot during class, and this is where the Mara pants work particularly well.
Dancer feedback describes them as comfortable and lightweight while still providing enough warmth without becoming overly hot. The second thing to know is the fit. These are relaxed warm-up pants, not slim joggers. They have deliberate room through the hips and legs and can feel relatively long, particularly through the rise. That extra volume contributes to their easy studio movement, but dancers expecting a close fashion-jogger silhouette should expect something quite different.
Studio Experience
The biggest advantage of an ultra-light warm-up like this is how little it interferes with training.
There is no heavy knit pulling against the legs and very little bulk around the body. The loose construction gives the dancer room for deep pliés, stretching and larger ranges of movement, while the tapered elastic ankles keep the lower silhouette controlled.
And then there's something rarely mentioned on a product specification sheet: sound.
Anyone who has worn very crisp warm-up pants knows the experience - every plié, step and développé accompanied by a little swish, swish, swish. The Mara fabric is comparatively quiet, making these particularly pleasant in a calm ballet studio where excessive fabric noise can become surprisingly noticeable.
Once class progresses and you no longer need them, their fine nylon construction is another advantage. They can be folded down into very little space, making them easy to keep in a dance bag alongside shoes, skirts and other warm-up layers.
Dance World Notes
- Warm without heavy insulation. A great option for dancers who want to take the chill off without wearing thick warm-up trousers.
- Ultra-light feel. Considerably lighter than knitted, fleece or traditional sweatpant-style warm-ups.
- Quiet for this type of fabric. There's naturally some movement sound from the lightweight nylon, but it is pleasantly discreet compared with crisper warm-up fabrics.
- Generous studio fit. Expect a relaxed silhouette with plenty of room through the leg rather than a close jogger fit.
- Dance-friendly ankles. Elastic cuffs help keep excess fabric away from the feet and allow the lower leg to sit neatly above ballet or pointe shoes.
- Easy over a leotard. The soft elasticated waistband keeps the construction simple with no drawcord or bulky fastening.
- Dance-bag friendly. Their ultra-light construction makes these one of those warm-up layers you can keep packed almost permanently.
Dance World Verdict
♡ Warm-Up Essential
The Mara Warm-Up Pants are a very good example of why dancer-specific warm-ups aren't simply ordinary tracksuit bottoms.
They prioritise exactly what matters before and during class: lightness, unrestricted movement, comfortable warmth, easy layering and minimal bulk. Add the relatively quiet fabric and exceptionally easy packability, and they become a particularly practical everyday studio layer.
We especially like them for dancers who find themselves removing heavy warm-ups five minutes into barre. The lighter construction means you can potentially keep the layer on for longer while your body gradually reaches its working temperature.
They're equally useful for everyday classes, intensives, rehearsal days, backstage waiting and travelling between studio sessions.
Who Are These Best For?
Choose these if: you want an exceptionally lightweight warm-up, prefer loose layers over fitted joggers, want something quiet and easy to move in, or need warm-up pants that take up almost no room in your dance bag.
Consider a heavier warm-up if: maximum insulation is your priority, you spend long periods waiting in very cold studios, or you specifically prefer the cosy feel of knitted or fleece warm-up pants.
Light, quiet, loose and incredibly easy to layer - warm-up pants designed around dancing rather than lounging.
