Meet Bodile: Australian Ballet Dancewear

Stephen Rock |

Some dancewear makes you start planning your next class outfit before you have even opened your dance bag. For us, Bodile is that kind of brand, and we are delighted to welcome it to the Dance World family.

Bodile has arrived at Dance World. Our first collection from this Australian ballet dancewear brand brings together detailed leotards, sheer mesh skirts and velvet pieces, with plenty of ways to make an outfit your own.

If you are meeting Bodile for the first time, this is a lovely place to begin. Take a closer look at the details that caught our eye, get to know the different shapes and discover a few outfit combinations from our first selection.

New to Dance World Australian ballet brand Leotards & skirts

Bodile: Australian Ballet Dancewear

Meet Bodile: ballet with a fashion point of view

Pronounced “boh-deel”, Bodile takes its name from “body” and Odile, the Black Swan from Swan Lake. Founder Rebecca Morrice Williams launched the brand in 2021, and its design studio is based in Perth, Western Australia.

That ballet connection comes through in the collection, but so does an interest in getting dressed. Square necklines, corset-inspired panelling, sheer sleeves and contrasting textures give familiar studio pieces a different personality.

You can keep the look quiet with one colour family or let a detailed leotard lead the outfit. That flexibility is part of the appeal.

Why we chose Bodile for Dance World

We love finding pieces that give dancers another way to express their style. With Bodile, it is the relationship between the leotards and skirts that makes the collection particularly exciting: there are different sleeve lengths, skirt shapes and colour combinations to explore.

What caught our eye

The details: mesh, velvet and considered panel lines give you something to notice beyond the first impression.

The palette: shades such as Prussian Blue, Mexican Rose, Bon Bon and Twilight appear across our selection, opening up plenty of styling possibilities.

The choice of shapes: a camisole leotard with a short skirt creates a very different look from mesh sleeves and a longer rehearsal skirt.

Our first selection gives you room to experiment. You might choose a complete Bodile outfit, or start with one skirt to wear with a leotard you already love.

A first look at our Bodile leotards

From camisole straps to long mesh sleeves, each style brings something different to your ballet wardrobe. Here are a few details to help you find your starting point.

Sofia: square necklines and panel detail

Our first collection includes both Sofia and Sofia Long Sleeve. Their square necklines and corset-inspired lines offer a clear starting point for a coordinated outfit; the long-sleeved version adds sheer mesh sleeves.

Explore combinations including Frost Nougat, alongside darker and brighter colour stories across the two versions.

Bella: camisole styling with texture

Bella combines adjustable camisole straps with velvet panels and mesh details. It is a lovely option to explore if you prefer an open shoulder line and enjoy a mix of textures.

Our selection includes Bon Bon Bliss and Majesty Fig Noir Twilight.

Saskia: three-quarter mesh sleeves

Saskia pairs a square neckline with three-quarter mesh sleeves. If you like sleeve coverage without a full-length sleeve, this is one to put on your shortlist.

Prussian Blue is among our chosen colours, with several skirt styles in the same named shade.

Valentina: velvet and long mesh sleeves

Valentina brings together velvet bodice panels, long mesh sleeves and a square neckline. We would let those details lead, then choose a skirt that picks up one colour from the leotard.

Our selection includes Prussian Blue and Bliss Bon Bon.

And for something a little different: explore our Ophelia selection, including Leopard Obsidian, Black Dahlia and the Talisma styles. These are worth a closer look if you enjoy making your leotard the focus of an outfit.

Four Bodile skirts, four different looks

Choosing a ballet skirt is about more than colour. Length, fullness and texture can change the whole feel of an outfit. Our first collection includes four styles, each offering a different finishing touch.

Skirt The shape Our styling idea
Mika A slim mesh skirt with a high-low line, ruching ties and a side slit. Try it with Sofia for a close, softly draped silhouette.
Julieta A longer, full-circle pull-on mesh skirt. Pair its fuller shape with Saskia’s defined neckline.
Gisella A half-circle mesh skirt with a high-low hem and ribbon ruching. Pick out one shade from a multi-coloured leotard.
Zara A short, slim velvet skirt with a curved hem. Echo the velvet detail in Bella for a textured pairing.

Four Bodile outfit ideas to try

Not sure where to start? These combinations bring together pieces from our first selection. Matching colour names can look different across mesh, velvet and opaque fabric; that variation in texture is part of what makes a tonal outfit interesting.

1. Prussian Blue, head to toe

Saskia in Prussian Blue + Julieta in Prussian Blue.

A single-colour approach that lets the neckline, sheer sleeves and full skirt shape do the talking.

2. A touch of Mexican Rose

Sofia in Mexican Rose Macaron + Mika in Mexican Rose.

Pick up the leotard’s rose colour in a slim mesh skirt for a coordinated look with contrasting textures.

3. Bon Bon meets Bliss

Bella in Bon Bon Bliss + Zara in Bliss.

A camisole-and-short-skirt combination that repeats Bella’s velvet texture without adding sleeves.

4. Follow the Twilight detail

Sofia Long Sleeve + Gisella in Twilight.

Let a multi-tonal leotard choose the skirt colour for you. The mesh skirt adds another layer without hiding all the detail underneath.

Choosing your first Bodile piece

Start with the shape you enjoy wearing: camisole straps, a tank neckline, three-quarter sleeves or long sleeves. Then consider how much coverage you want through the body and back. Sheer panels and lining arrangements differ between styles, so check the individual product details.

Use the size guidance for the specific model rather than assuming one size will fit identically throughout the collection. For example, Bodile notes that Sofia Long Sleeve runs short and recommends sizing up if you have a longer torso. Check the measurements and model-specific advice before choosing.

For skirts, think about where you like the waistband to sit and how much length or fullness you enjoy. A short velvet skirt and a full-circle mesh skirt may share a colour story, but they create very different outfits.

A little care for delicate details

Mesh needs gentle handling. Bodile advises pulling from the body of the garment rather than the mesh when dressing, and taking care with fingernails. Follow the care label supplied with your particular piece.
