Use your body measurements rather than your everyday clothing size. Mara Dancewear uses different sizing across leotards, ballet skirts and warm-up pants, so always check the chart for the garment you are choosing. If your measurements fall between sizes, consider the measurement most important for that garment and your preferred fit.
Mara Dancewear Leotard Size Chart
Use your chest, waist, hips and girth measurements to find your recommended Mara Dancewear leotard size.
| Measurement | XXS | XS | S | M | L | XL |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chest | 78–82 cm 30"–32" | 82–86 cm 32"–34" | 86–90 cm 34"–36" | 90–94 cm 36"–38" | 94–98 cm 38"–40" | 98–102 cm 40"–42" |
| Waist | 58–62 cm 22"–23" | 62–66 cm 24"–25" | 66–70 cm 26"–27" | 70–74 cm 28"–29" | 74–78 cm 30"–31" | 78–82 cm 32"–33" |

For Mara leotards, girth is one of the most useful measurements because it reflects the dancer's full torso length. If your measurements fall across different sizes, pay particular attention to girth. Dancers with a longer torso may be more comfortable in the larger size.

How to Measure for Mara Dancewear
Measure over underwear or close-fitting clothing using a flexible tape measure. Stand naturally and keep the tape comfortably against the body without pulling it tight.

Girth
Key MeasurementUsing a flexible tape measure, start at the centre of one shoulder. Bring the tape down the front of the torso, through the crotch and back up the body to the same shoulder, creating one complete loop.
Keep the tape comfortably close to the body without pulling it tight. The dancer should stand naturally while being measured.
Chest
Measure around the fullest part of the chest, keeping the tape straight and level around the body. Keep the tape comfortably against the body without compressing it.
Waist
Measure around the natural waist, usually the narrowest part of the torso. Keep the tape level and do not pull it too tightly.
Hips
Measure around the fullest part of the hips and seat while standing naturally. Keep the tape level all the way around the body.
Height
Stand straight without shoes, with feet flat on the floor, and measure from the floor to the top of the head.
Mara Dancewear uses different size structures depending on the garment. For leotards, compare chest, waist, hips and especially girth. For skirts, waist and hips are the most useful measurements. For warm-up pants, use waist and hips together with Mara's height guidance to choose between XS/S and M/L.

Lightweight Warmth, Made for the Studio
The Mara Dancewear Ballet Warm-Up Pants in Pastel Pink are an ultra-light layer for dancers who want to stay comfortably warm without the weight of traditional knitted warm-ups. Airy nylon, a relaxed silhouette and tapered elastic ankles make them particularly easy to wear through warm-up, barre and rehearsal.
Mara Dancewear Ballet Warm-Up Pants – Design & Performance
These pants take the familiar dancer “trash bag” warm-up concept and give it a softer, more refined Mara feel. The ultra-light nylon construction creates a fine outer layer around the legs, helping dancers maintain comfortable warmth while keeping the garment light enough to move in for longer.
The cut is deliberately relaxed through the hips and legs rather than shaped like a conventional fitted jogger. That extra room is useful in the studio, allowing comfortable pliés, stretching, développés and larger ranges of movement without heavy fabric pulling against the body.
A soft elasticated waistband keeps the pants simple over a leotard, while elasticated ankles taper the lower leg and prevent loose fabric from interfering around the feet.
And one of our favourite less-obvious details: they're relatively quiet in motion. Technical nylon will always create some natural fabric sound, but these feel noticeably more discreet than the crisp, rustling warm-up pants dancers sometimes associate with traditional “trash bag” styles.

The Dance World Warm-Up Profile compares how different dance warm-ups balance insulation, breathability, weight, movement, fabric sound and packability. A higher score does not necessarily mean a better product — it shows the characteristics of the garment so dancers can choose the warm-up layer that best suits their training.
Studio Experience
This is the type of warm-up that can become a permanent resident in a dance bag.
Pull them over a leotard and tights before class, keep them on through stretching and early barre, or use them between rehearsals when you don't want the legs cooling down. The relaxed cut leaves plenty of space for movement, while the elasticated ankles keep the lower leg controlled around ballet and pointe shoes.
They're also pleasantly discreet for a technical nylon warm-up. There is naturally some soft fabric movement, but not the pronounced rustling associated with particularly crisp warm-up fabric, a small detail that can make a surprisingly big difference in a quiet ballet studio.
Once you no longer need them, they compress into very little space. That makes them especially useful for dancers already carrying pointe shoes, rehearsal skirts, recovery accessories and half a studio in their bag.
Dance World Notes
- Light warmth rather than heavy insulation. Ideal when you want to stay covered and comfortable without feeling bundled up.
- Made for movement. The generous leg gives the dancer room for pliés, stretching and large ranges of motion.
- Quiet for technical nylon. Some natural fabric sound remains, but movement is comparatively discreet.
- Relaxed dancer fit. These are intentionally looser than conventional joggers or training trousers.
- Controlled at the ankle. Elastic cuffs prevent the loose silhouette from falling towards the feet.
- Easy studio layering. A simple elastic waistband slips comfortably over leotards and tights.
- Exceptional packability. Fold them down and they take up remarkably little dance-bag space.
Dance World Verdict
♡ Warm-Up Essential
These are exactly what we want from a lightweight dancer's warm-up: easy, unrestricted and practical enough to wear every day.
Rather than providing maximum insulation, the Mara pants sit in that very useful middle ground where they help take the chill away while remaining light and breathable enough for active studio use.
We particularly like the combination of ultra-low weight, relaxed movement, relatively quiet fabric and exceptional packability. Pastel Pink then adds a soft ballet aesthetic that looks beautiful over neutral, pink and contrasting leotards alike.
Who Are These Best For?
Choose these if: you want an exceptionally lightweight studio warm-up, prefer relaxed layers over fitted joggers, dislike bulky trousers, or want something that can stay permanently tucked into your dance bag.
Consider a heavier warm-up if: maximum insulation is your priority or you prefer the soft, cosy sensation of knitted or fleece warm-up trousers.
Soft ballet colour, technical practicality, an everyday warm-up that's easy to put on, easy to dance in and even easier to keep in your bag.
