International shoe sizes can vary slightly between brands and models. Use your measured foot length as the best starting point, then compare it with the individual brand's size recommendation. Where a product page gives model-specific sizing advice, that guidance should always take priority over a general conversion chart.

Never choose a dance shoe from conversion alone. Ballet, jazz, ballroom and character shoes can fit very differently depending on the last, upper material, width and intended level of compression. Use this table to understand international equivalents, then follow the fit advice for the individual shoe.
How to Measure Your Feet for Dance Shoes
Measure both feet while standing, preferably later in the day. Use the longer foot when comparing your measurement with a shoe size chart.
Foot Length
Key MeasurementStand with your heel lightly against a wall and place your foot flat on a sheet of paper. Mark the end of your longest toe and measure the distance from the wall to the mark.
Measure in centimetres for the most accurate comparison with international shoe charts.
Measure Both Feet
Repeat the measurement on the other foot. It is very common for one foot to be slightly longer than the other, so always use the larger measurement when choosing your starting size.
Foot Width
Measure across or around the widest part of the forefoot. Width can be just as important as length in dance shoes, particularly in fitted ballet, jazz and ballroom styles.
Measure While Standing
Take measurements with your full weight on your feet. Standing allows the foot to spread naturally and gives a more realistic measurement than measuring while sitting.
Check the Dance Fit
A correctly fitted dance shoe should feel secure without restricting the toes or causing pressure. Different dance disciplines require different amounts of growing room, compression and heel security, so always follow the model-specific Dance World Fit Advice.
This chart is designed as an international reference rather than a replacement for individual brand sizing. Bloch, Capezio, So Danca, IDS, PortDance, Diamant and other dance footwear brands may use their own conversion systems or fit differently from standard street shoes. Always use the individual product's Dance World Fit Advice where available.

Description
Description
Brush, Cover and Get Ready to Dance
Make a sole check part of getting ready for your next class. The IDS Dance Shoe Brush for Suede Soles helps loosen dirt and refresh flattened suede, supporting the texture your ballroom and Latin shoes need underfoot. Its wooden handle gives you room to guide each stroke, while the attached protective flap folds over the bristles when it is time to pack up.
International Dance Shoes Brush – Design & Everyday Use
The wire-bristle head works across the suede surface to lift compressed fibres and release accumulated debris. This helps refresh the sole’s nap: the raised texture that contributes to grip on the dance floor.
A shaped wooden handle lets you guide the brush across individual areas of the sole. Work gently and check your progress, especially where the surface looks smooth.
The attached hook-and-loop cover stays with the brush during use. Fold it back to expose the wires, then fasten it over the head before returning the brush to your bag.
Why Brush Your Suede Dance Shoe Soles?
Suede can become compacted and collect dust during dancing, leaving the sole smoother than it was. Brushing helps bring back its texture. Floor conditions also affect how shoes feel, so check your grip with a few gentle steps before beginning your routine.
How to Use the IDS Suede Sole Brush
- Start with dry soles. Let damp shoes air dry naturally, away from direct heat.
- Open the cover. Support the shoe securely and keep fingers clear of the wires.
- Brush lightly. Work from the middle of the suede outwards, keeping the bristles away from the upper.
- Check the surface. Give smooth patches gentle attention without digging into the material.
- Cover after use. Clear away loosened debris and refasten the protective flap.
For IDS XG soles: Brush the suede sections only. Avoid the rubber and the stitching that joins it to the suede.
IDS Shoe Brush – Your Questions Answered
How often should I brush my suede soles?
IDS recommends light brushing after each dance session to remove dirt and maintain the suede’s texture.
Can I use it on shoe uppers?
Use this wire brush only on suede soles. Keep it away from satin, leather, patent and suede uppers.
Product Highlight
Suede Sole Care with a Cover That Stays Attached. Give your IDS shoe brush a regular place in your preparation and packing routine, from weekly lessons to competition days.
Dance World Tip: Brush over a bin or another suitable area away from the dance floor, so loosened dirt does not end up underfoot.
