Check torso length: Measure from the centre of one shoulder, down the front of the body, through the crotch and back up to the same shoulder in one continuous loop.

Check the back and sleeves: Ask your child to lift both arms overhead and bend their elbows. Do not choose Mondor leotards from the age label alone. The Canadian age notation can fit differently from the European gymnastics sizing many customers are familiar with. Use girth first, then bust/chest and waist, and treat the age as a secondary reference.

How to Measure for Mondor Gymnastics Leotards

Measure over underwear or close-fitting clothing using a flexible tape measure. Stand naturally and keep the tape comfortably against the body without pulling it tight.

Girth

Key Measurement

Start at the centre of one shoulder. Bring the tape down the front of the torso, through the crotch and back up to the same shoulder in one complete loop.

For Mondor leotards, girth is the most useful measurement when age and body measurements suggest different sizes.

Bust / Chest

Measure around the fullest part of the bust or chest, keeping the tape level around the body without compressing it.

Waist

Measure around the natural waist, usually the narrowest part of the torso. Keep the tape comfortably close and level.

Hips

Measure around the fullest part of the hips and seat while standing naturally. Keep the tape level all the way around.

Height

Stand straight without shoes, with feet flat on the floor, and measure from the floor to the top of the head.

How Should an Open-Back Gymnastics Leotard Fit?

An open-back leotard should sit close to the body and feel comfortable as your child moves. When trying it on, ask them to reach both arms overhead and bend gently. The edges of the back opening should sit neatly, with no uncomfortable pulling at the shoulders or leg openings. The mesh should lie smoothly without feeling tightly stretched.
