HOW TO MEASURE: There are few methods for measuring for a twirling baton. They will produce slightly different results so please ask your teacher which they prefer.

General Method: Stand straight and have arms out parallel to the floor. Then, measure from the armpit to the tip of the middle finger. If the number falls between lengths, size up.

Before Choosing Your Size

Take dancewear measurements over underwear or close-fitting clothing using a flexible tape measure. For shoes, measure both feet while standing and use the longer measurement as your general starting point.

Bust / Chest Measure around the fullest part of the chest, keeping the tape straight and level.

Waist Measure around the natural waist, usually the narrowest part of the torso.

Hips Measure around the fullest part of the hips and seat, keeping the tape level.

Girth Start at one shoulder, measure down the front of the torso, through the crotch and back to the same shoulder in one continuous loop.

Foot Length Measure from heel to longest toe while standing. Measure both feet and use the longer measurement as your general starting point.

Steps to Measure for the Perfect Baton Length:

Stand Up Straight: Stand with your arm relaxed by your side.
Extend Your Arm: Hold your arm straight out to the side, parallel to the floor.
Measure from Armpit to Middle Finger: Use a measuring tape or a ruler to measure the distance from your armpit to the tip of your middle finger on the outstretched arm.
Choose the Closest Baton Size: Once you have your measurement in inches, choose the baton length that’s closest to this measurement. Baton sizes usually range from 18 inches to around 32 inches, increasing in 1-inch increments. Round up or down to the nearest size.

Common Tips:

If Between Sizes: Go with the slightly shorter size if you’re new to twirling; it can be easier to handle as you develop your technique. Go with longer size if you more advanced.
Check for Comfort: A properly sized baton will feel comfortable in your hand, with the weight evenly balanced as you twirl, throw, and catch.
