International shoe sizes can vary slightly between brands and models. Use your measured foot length as the best starting point, then compare it with the individual brand's size recommendation. Where a product page gives model-specific sizing advice, that guidance should always take priority over a general conversion chart.

Never choose a dance shoe from conversion alone. Ballet, jazz, ballroom and character shoes can fit very differently depending on the last, upper material, width and intended level of compression. Use this table to understand international equivalents, then follow the fit advice for the individual shoe.
How to Measure Your Feet for Dance Shoes
Measure both feet while standing, preferably later in the day. Use the longer foot when comparing your measurement with a shoe size chart.
Foot Length
Key MeasurementStand with your heel lightly against a wall and place your foot flat on a sheet of paper. Mark the end of your longest toe and measure the distance from the wall to the mark.
Measure in centimetres for the most accurate comparison with international shoe charts.
Measure Both Feet
Repeat the measurement on the other foot. It is very common for one foot to be slightly longer than the other, so always use the larger measurement when choosing your starting size.
Foot Width
Measure across or around the widest part of the forefoot. Width can be just as important as length in dance shoes, particularly in fitted ballet, jazz and ballroom styles.
Measure While Standing
Take measurements with your full weight on your feet. Standing allows the foot to spread naturally and gives a more realistic measurement than measuring while sitting.
Check the Dance Fit
A correctly fitted dance shoe should feel secure without restricting the toes or causing pressure. Different dance disciplines require different amounts of growing room, compression and heel security, so always follow the model-specific Dance World Fit Advice.
This chart is designed as an international reference rather than a replacement for individual brand sizing. Bloch, Capezio, So Danca, IDS, PortDance, Diamant and other dance footwear brands may use their own conversion systems or fit differently from standard street shoes. Always use the individual product's Dance World Fit Advice where available.

Best For: Intermediate & Advanced Dancers • Championship Training • Feiseanna • Show Dancing • Teachers • Toe Stands • Dancers Wanting Flexibility with Support
Description
Description
Powerful, flexible and built for sustained performance, the Fays Ultra Flexi Advanced Irish Dancing Jig Shoes are a long-established favourite among experienced dancers, championship competitors, teachers and professional performers. A thin black suede sole provides responsive flexibility, while the 100% calf-leather construction retains more substance and support than the lighter Fays Ultra Light.
Fays Millennium tips create a sharp, precise tone, while moulded Hi-Density heels provide strength and a clear clicking surface. A flattened front block gives dancers a stable platform for toe stands, making Ultra Flexi a dependable progression and performance shoe for technically confident dancers.
Personality
Precise • Flexible • Durable • Stage-Proven
Ultra Flexi balances two qualities that rarely sit comfortably together in a hard shoe: a sole flexible enough for refined pointing and toe work, and a substantial calf-leather construction designed to retain useful support through demanding training and performance.
Fays Ultra Flexi Jig Shoes – Design & Performance
The Fays Ultra Flexi is constructed from 100% calf leather, giving the upper a supple but reassuringly substantial feel. The leather gradually settles around the dancer’s foot, creating a more personal fit while maintaining the controlled hold required for fast, technical hard-shoe work.
Underneath, a thin black suede sole provides considerably more flexibility than a traditional heavy leather sole. It allows the shoe to work increasingly closely with the foot through pointing, rises and travelling movement without becoming as immediately soft or lightweight as Fays Ultra Light.
This distinction is important. Ultra Flexi is designed for dancers who want advanced flexibility but still value a degree of resistance and structure beneath the foot. It requires a genuine, though relatively short, period of natural breaking-in.
At the front, Fays’ specially formulated Millennium tip is designed for strength, durability and a sharp, precise sound. Its flattened block creates a wider platform beneath the toes, providing additional stability and balance for dancers with the strength and technique to perform toe stands.
The moulded Hi-Density heel provides a strong, clear acoustic response and is mechanically secured to the shoe for additional strength. Shaping towards the inside of the heel creates a more accessible contact area for clicks, helping dancers produce clean heel connection as rhythms become faster and more intricate.
A traditional lace-up front secures the shoe across the instep, while the leather ankle strap and buckle provide additional hold around the heel and ankle. The complete shoe should feel closely connected to the dancer’s foot without restricting the toes or pulling the heel out of position.
Ultra Flexi has been widely used by championship dancers, show performers and teachers because it provides enough flexibility for advanced movement while remaining more supportive and substantial than an ultra-light construction.

The Dance World Hard Shoe DNA™ compares the defining characteristics of every Irish dancing jig shoe. A higher score does not necessarily mean a better shoe - it shows the balance of sound projection, flexibility, lightness, support and break-in ease so dancers can choose the construction best suited to their level, technique and training needs.
Dance World Notes
The classic Fays balance: Ultra Flexi gives technically confident dancers a responsive suede sole without removing all the resistance and structure from the shoe. It feels more substantial than an ultra-light model but considerably more workable than a traditional heavy leather sole.
A neat, close Fays shape: Fays hard shoes often feel more compact through the foot than broader Rutherford constructions. Dancers with a wider forefoot or high instep should pay particular attention to width and avoid adding excessive length simply to create more room.
Dance World Tip – Ultra Flexi is not Ultra Light. Choose Ultra Flexi when you want advanced flexibility with more substance, support and resistance. Choose Ultra Lite Gold when minimum weight and the easiest possible initial flex are more important than retaining a firmer feel.
Fays Ultra Flexi Dance World Fit Advice
Close through the upper. Natural through the toes. Secure at the heel.
Ultra Flexi should fit closely around the foot without painful compression. The toes should lie naturally inside the shoe, with the flattened front block correctly positioned beneath them and the widest part of the foot aligned with the widest part of the shoe.
The heel should remain fully seated as the dancer walks, rises and performs gentle clicks. The laces should hold the instep securely, while the ankle strap provides additional stability without cutting into the ankle.
Professional fitting is recommended, particularly when changing brands or moving into a more flexible performance shoe. Check the fit on a protected surface and keep the tips, heels and soles completely unmarked until approved.
